Pam Mangan passed away June 15, 2024, surrounded by family.
Pam was a woman of faith, a teacher and a missionary, she participated in many groups within her church, enjoyed traveling, had a constant desire to learn, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was born in St. Louis, MO to Esther and Henri Comfort. In her early years Pam enjoyed dancing and outdoor activities. She spent a lot of time with her grandmother who lived on the Mississippi River. In the classroom, she excelled in math, and set school records for some of her Math standard test scores.
Pam graduated from Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, MO and Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. She received an Education Degree with a focus on Mathematics and Biology. She taught school for one year in Houston and then went across the world as a missionary in the African Congo. After two years in Africa she returned to the United States and taught at Garfield High School in Seattle, WA.
It was in Seattle that Pam met the love of her life, Fred Mangan, when they were in a computer lab at the University Of Washington. They were engaged 4 months later and they were married April 3, 1971.
After marriage, they moved from Seattle to Alexandria VA, White Sands Missile Range NM, Kennewick WA, Anchorage AK, Richland WA, and back to Kennewick WA. Most of their 53 year marriage has been in the Tri-Cities. During her time in the Tri-Cities she taught school at Kennewick High School and Columbia Basin College, and raised and educated her two sons, Rick and Tom.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Mangan, two sons Rick Mangan (Traci) and Tom Mangan(Akiko). Five grandchildren Fritz, Chase, Isaac, Hannah, and Noah. Brothers Chuck Comfort (Charlene) and Mark Comfort, many nephews, grand nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 AM at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Columbia Center Blvd. A light lunch and then a procession to the burial site at Einan’s will follow.
I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s hard for me to imagine that Pam has passed. She was a very dear friend and part of our family for more than 40 years. She will always be a part of my heart and of my memories. I treasure our friendship and thank her for sharing so much of her life with us.
With love, Karen Marvin-D.
I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry for your loss. My family and I enjoyed the Christmas eve’s we spent together, playing games and getting to know her more each year. As the mother-in-law of my niece, Traci, and mom of Rick, she was a devoted mom to her sons, daughters in law and a wonderful grandmother to her grand children. I think she lived her life to it’s fullest, along with her strong faith.
She will be so missed by family and friends, and I pray that you all find peace that although she may have passed into heaven far sooner than she should have, she is happy to be there.
We pray for comfort and peace for you, Fred, and your family. We will miss Pam and her always engaging personality and positive attitude.
So very sorry to have heard of this tragic news, Fred. My prayers are with you. Van Wilks.
