Sharon Gass

Sharon Lee Gass, born on September 1, 1955, in Pasco, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024, in Kennewick, Washington. She was a cherished member of the community, known for her dedication as a Para Educator within the Kennewick School District.

A woman of profound faith and unwavering commitment to her family, Sharon’s life was a testament to the values she held dear. Together with her husband, she co-owned Something Unique, an antique store that served as a hub for their shared passion for antiquing. Her love for collecting dolls, especially Barbies, as well as her enjoyment of Christmas and Hallmark Christmas movies, brought delight not only to her but also to all who knew her. Sharon’s dedication to her faith was evident in her active involvement with the Christian Motorcycle Association, where she and Gary played pivotal roles in bringing many to the Lord.

Sharon is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Gass; her mother, Ruth Poorman; her siblings, Jerry (Jan) Poorman, Debbie Hickey, and Richard Poorman; her sister-in-law, Kimberly (Leland) Gass; her children, Gary (Cindy Carpenter) Gass, Chrystie (Sean) Bilow, and Billy (Shawn) Gass; along with her cherished eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her father, Jerry Poorman, and her brother-in-law, Marty Hickey. Sharon’s presence was a beacon of love and joy to her family.

Sharon Lee Gass lived a life marked by love, faith, and service. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

I’ll miss our talks about dogs and Coca Cola the most because no one really likes coke in my family ! Love you and miss you

  • Sharon and I were best friends for 55 years, long before the current term of “BFF” was ever thought of.
    We met in junior high school while walking to school from our homes. We spent hours together listening to music, reading romance novels and talking. She taught me how to embroider.

    She was everything you’d ever want in a best friend. She was kind and gentle, honest, respectful, always supportive. She was empathetic, and patient. She seemed to have a connection with elderly people and wanted to work in heath care when we were young. The same traits allowed her to work with children with special needs later on. It takes a very special person to do what she did.

    She saw the best in people. It was her idea that JB and I should get together and encouraged our relationship. I guess she saw both our hearts because we are still married after 48 years.

    Her love of Christmas was contagious and we soon each had as many Christmas trees as our homes could hold. We celebrated Christmas together with her and Gary for many years.

    There were times that we were both busy and didn’t see each other for months, but it never mattered, we could always pick right back up where we left off. And always knew each would come at a moments notice if needed. Thinking back, we never had an argument or cross word with each other.
    Sharon had a deep faith in God, and drew great strength from her faith, and shared it with others. She worked hard and kept going over the years, not complaining if times were hard, through pain or illness. I believe this passage suits her perfectly.

    Philippians 4:11-13
    ….. for I have learned to be content, whatever the circumstances. I know what is is to be in need and what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

  • Sharon was always a solid, stable and loving friend. Her personal relationship with the Lord gave her the ability to know when a friend was in need of a call or visit. In our over 50 yrs it always surprised me when she reached out exactly when I needed her. I’m sure many feel the same. She was the BEST and most spiritual lady I’ve ever known. I love her. I will be with her again 🙂
    Family I know many of you, I am so sorry for your lose. My heart aches for you. The only solace I find is she is with our Lord and no longer in pain.

  • Sharon was nothing short of amazing. My Mom was one her best friends and I can still remember like yesterday the conversation we sat and had in the funeral home. We talked several times since then and I can honestly say I have always appreciated Sharon’s kindness, love, and human spirit. She is greatly missed. Hugs to the family.

  • Ah Sharon (Ma) I’m so sad you are physically not with us any longer . The news broke my heart! I just want to thank you for your love and support over the years. The many talks we had the advise you provided the wisdom you shared I’m so grateful to you !!! You literally opened your home to a stranger a young 16 year old girl when I needed someone so desperately!!! You provided me refuge for a long summer trapped in a place where I only knew 2 people you gave me a place to stay you helped me work through some of the trauma I had just experienced!! Without you and Gary I don’t know what I would have done! But it wasn’t just me you “ Fostered “ that summer there were a few of us KIDS that needed a safe place and you and your beautiful soul and heart and your amazing family helped us that needed it !!! You will always be Ma to me! Even 15 years later when I came to visit you welcomed me again and you were so happy to see the woman I had become! It was if time hadn’t passed when I saw you it seemed like you were still at the airport when I left waiting with open arms for me to come back!!! For someone who had such a traumatic up bringing with my own parents you so
    Gently stepped in and guided me through that few months and I don’t know where I would be right now had you and Gary not stepped up to help me!! So
