Eric N. Smith

Eric Nathan Smith passed away, after a 16-month battle with cancer, on July 20, 2024, at the age of 57. He was born in Boise, Idaho, on March 8, 1967, but his formative years were spent in Moses Lake, Washington, having moved there with his family at age 10.

His favorite hobbies included hunting, building 4x4s, riding quads, slinging mud, and jeeping in the dunes with family and friends.

Eric loved his country, his family, his friends, and his neighbors. He was a self-taught handyman and mechanic and could always be depended on to help with car trouble, house repairs, yard work, shoveling snow, or any other job that could be accomplished with duct tape.

Throughout his life, Eric tried out a lot of different jobs, but he rounded it out with a 25-year career at Boise Cascade Paper Mill (Packaging Corporation of America).

Eric found great joy (most of the time) being husband to Karla and father to Cherie, Britny, and Jacob. His goofy and playful nature shaped many of the family memories and brought a lot of happiness to everyone who knew him.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Eric is survived by 13 siblings and their families, as well as a very large extended family, led by Allen and Pat Lindsay, all of whom he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Mack Smith, and his mother Eva LaVina Moyes (Byington).

Please join us for a service in Eric’s memory at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home at 1 o’clock pm on Monday, July 29. Graveside burial to follow at 2 o’clock. All are welcome.

  • I’m so sorry I can’t be there to celebrate Eric’s life. I was young when Eric entered the family. I always felt like he gave Karla and the girls happiness. I never saw him not smile. My early memories of Eric was talking to him during the holidays about working double time and a half. But my greatest memories were his ability to help and fix anything. I will miss our conversations, his mullet, and that mustache. Rest in Powwr.
