Gail Wintczak (1946-2024)
Gail passed away on August 1, 2024, following an extended illness.
Gail was born in December 1946 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She spent her childhood years in Ogden, Pennsylvania and graduated from Chichester High School in 1968. Throughout her school years, she was active in Girl Scouts and was a summer camp counselor for younger girls.
Following high school, Gail got her teaching degree from the University of Delaware. Her first teaching position was in an elementary school in Mendham Township, New Jersey. She spent 20 years teaching in New Jersey before moving to Richland, Washington, where she taught gifted students in Richland and Kennewick schools until her retirement.
Gail enjoyed gardening and worked hard to make her yard her own. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the many birds and wildlife that often visited her pond close to her back yard. A bird identity guide and binoculars were always close at hand, along with many bird feeders.
Gail was a talented wood carver, and her creations are cherished by the many people to which she gifted them. In her retirement years, she also took watercolor painting classes and was quite good.
Her two nephews were special to her and Gail spent many hours watching their sporting events over the years. She always enjoyed cheering them on.
Gail is preceded in death her parents, Ted and Louise Wintczak. She is survived by her brother Tom Wintczak and sister-in-law Linda, nephew Dustin Wintczak (Molly Smith) and their children, Shaelyn, Hunter and Thatcher, and nephew Josh Wintczak (Bethany Wintczak) and their children, Lucas, Trayvon and Kira. She had many lifelong friends and relatives, too numerous to mention, who kept touch with during the past few difficult years. A special thank you to Diane Krossin, a special friend who spent many hours with Gail.
Gail requested that there be no services on her behalf. You can honor her, if you wish, by donating to Seattle Children’s Hospital.
I wanted to invite Gail to come paint and found this instead. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful teacher and student. I have one of her carvings on my art studio door. I think of her often.
