Marlene Joyce Richter Frank

Marlene joined her Lord and Savior on August 4th, 2024.

Marlene was born in Portland, Oregon to Joseph and Alice Richter on May 2nd, 1937. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church on July 4th, 1937, and attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade school and church where she was confirmed in 1951. She attended Sandy High School until 1954 when she moved to Richland, WA, where she graduated in 1955. After graduation she attended Merritt Davis School of Commerce. She went to work for General Electric in 1956 to 1964 in the 700, 300, and 100-D areas.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since moving to Richland in 1954. She attended bible classes and sang in the choir over the years and also helped at vacation bible school.

On May 23rd, 1959, Marlene married David Frank. On December 14th, 1965, they were blessed with a wonderful son, Duane. Marlene was proud of his scholastic abilities and loved reading to him and playing games with him.

Marlene loved skiing, tennis, hiking, and dancing. She played on several tennis teams at CBRC and played in a national tournament in Palm Springs, California. She spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, where she also played on several tennis teams. In Arizona, she took up clogging and was invited to join a performance group, “In-Folk Motion”, later named “Heart Beats and Rhythm” in 1999. In 2000 she went to England and Hungary to perform dance with the group at several folk festivals. From 2000 to 2009, the group did a lot of performing all over Arizona and Nevada. In 2005 they went to Courteney, British Columbia, to perform in a festival there and in August of 2007 went to Nashville to perform at the Ryman Theater, the Wild Horse Saloon, and the Grand Ole Opry Plaza.

Marlene especially enjoyed their days at Spout Springs where she and her husband built two cabins. She enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, but most of all their long walks at night in the snow with a bright moon.

Marlene loved being a wife and mother and loved being a grandmother.

She is survived by her son Duane and grandchildren Anthony and Kendra.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, her sister Joanne Flinn, and her nephews Michael Flinn and Jeff Flinn.
