**In Loving Memory of Richard Gonzales**

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Richard (Rich) Gonzales, who left us on August 5, 2024 in Richland, Washington. Born on November 15, 1955, Rich lived a life filled with love, laughter and lots of shenanigans.

A proud graduate of Anaconda High School in 1974, Rich began his career at the copper smelter at Anaconda Copper Company. In 1982 his small family moved to Richland for him to work as a Pipefitter on the Hanford site before moving into management roles for 29 years. Rich retired in January 2017 after 35 years of working on the Hanford site. His dedication to his career was matched only by his commitment to the family he created with his former wife, Jeri Sullivan of Bellingham. Over the years, he earned the respect and admiration of his family and colleagues.

A devoted father and grandfather, Rich was a man who cherished his family and friends. Some of his greatest joys came from spending time with his loved ones, whether it was during family vacations, holiday celebrations or game nights at home. He was always willing to jump in and lend a helping hand on various house projects with friends and family and always reminded us to “measure twice and cut once”.

Rich had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. An avid golfer, he found solace and joy on the green, always eager to share his enthusiasm for the game with friends and family. Rich dubbed Hole #14 at Horn Rapids as the location of many great “selfie” photos taken with friends. His dedication to golf was matched only by his love for hosting grand parties, where his laughter, energy and cornhole boards made every event memorable. His knack for creating fun occasions will be remembered with great fondness by all who attended. He was especially known for his luck with pull tabs!

At the heart of Rich’s world was his beloved cat, Roxy. Roxy brought him endless comfort and companionship and their time together was a source of great happiness.

Rich leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories. He is survived by his children Misty Ryan-Gonzales – daughter, of Lynnwood, Jeff Gonzales – son, of Seattle, David Gonzales – son, of Richland, and grandchildren Lincoln Ryan-Gonzales and Kaia Ryan-Gonzales, as well as sister Helen of Butte, Montana, sister Betty of Great Falls, Montana and brother Don of Ely, Nevada who will forever treasure the moments they shared with him. At the end, Rich was loved and cared for by Colleen Groff who provided him with support and companionship.

Rich is preceded in death by his father, Ygnacio Gonzales, mother, Esther Lopez and brother, George (Butch) Gonzales.

A celebration of Rich’s life will be held October 19th from 5pm-8pm at Horn Rapids Golf Course Events Center, where friends and family are invited to gather, have good food and share stories of a man who brought so much light into our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tri-City Cancer Center, reflecting Rich’s spirit of giving and his love for the community.

Though he may no longer be with us, the memories of Rich will live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace, knowing he made the world a brighter place for those who knew him.

  • I have so many wonderful memories of Rich on the golf course and off. It was at his parties that I learned playing different dice games involving quarters. He was a very special man and I will hold my memories of him close to my heart.
