Ardell M. Fuquay

88 years old
Richland, WA
Passed away at home on September 15, 2024
Ardell Mavis Fuquay peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on September 15, 2024.
She was born to Oscar and Alice Sieveke on October 7, 1935 in Twin Brooks, South Dakota, second oldest of five children.
The family moved to Chicago, Illinois when Ardell was in Junior High School and eventually settled in Kennewick, WA where Ardell attended and graduated from Kennewick High School.
She met and married high school sweetheart, James (Jim) F. Larkin in June of 1953. After Jim finished his naval service they settled in Horse Heaven Hills – Kennewick and had two daughters, Teresa and Jami.
After eleven years they divorced, and Ardell moved with her daughters to Richland.
Ardell’s faith in the Lord was always a strong part of her life since childhood.  She became an active member of Central United Protestant Church (Richland) in 1964 and was so until she passed.
At the same time, she began a career working as a receptionist at Richland Clinic and then later became a personal clerk at Washington Public Power Supply System. She had an early retirement upon marrying James Fuquay, associate director of Battelle-Northwest, in October of 1973. They were married for twenty-five years until his passing in January of 2022.
Ardell had a GREAT love for family and friends! And in addition to that was her love for animals. She began a hobby of raising and showing Norwegian Elkhounds.  Her dogs brought recognition but her favorite past time with her pups was her pet therapy program. Ardell, dogs and with the help of a grandchild or family friend, would bring smiles of joy to the residents and staff of Life Care Center of Richland on a weekly basis.
She continued her volunteer work with Kadlec Hospital Auxiliary Board as a volunteer and president for many years. Her current and final act of volunteer service was president of her HOA for Bryn Mawr Townhomes Association.
Ardell had a sense of style, for any and every occasion!  FUN FACT – quotes of several grandchildren ” Grandma is the best dressed woman we know!”
All who knew Ardell were familiar with her love of music and dancing. Being a longtime member of the Eagles Club, she lived out that passion weekly until two months before she passed away. She will be missed by us all, but we are certain she is dancing along the golden streets of Heaven.
Ardell was preceded in death by husband James Fuquay and sister LaVonne (Banta) Donahue; survived by daughters Teresa Alley (Tom Alley), Littleton, CO; Jami Siefken (Jeff Siefken), Richland WA; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; sister Marlene Hill, Spokane, WA;  brother Wayne Sieveke (Linda Sieveke) Spokane, WA; Kaye Edwards, Tucson AZ.

  • Ardell was a treasured friend of mine and of my parents. She went out of her way to do so much for us and to help us through some very difficult times. Her fierce independence and determination to live life her way is something I’ll never forget. She was classy, sassy and smart as a fox! And, definitely the best dressed person I have ever known. I miss her greatly as my next door neighbor. Rest in peace my dear friend. 💔
