Harry Rice, Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Dale Rice, Jr. on September 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Harry was born on May 11, 1952, in Walla Walla, Washington to Harry Rice, Sr. and Phyllis (Turner) Rice.
Harry’s parents moved to Richland, WA early in their marriage and Harry was a lifelong resident of Richland. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1970 and received a degree in Business Administration from Washington State University, Pullman, WA, in 1974. He remained a steadfast Cougar fan throughout his adult life.
Harry married the love of his life, Lynne (Adams) Rice, and they were married 39 years. Harry was known for being soft-spoken, kind, and he enjoyed providing love and support to his family. Harry loved playing Mexican Train Dominoes with his daughter Kathryn and son-in-law Matthew.
He had a long career at the Hanford Site where he worked as a Production Supervisor and Sr. Plant Engineer. He worked for several Hanford contractors during his tenure at the site until his retirement in 2021.
Harry was an avid reader and wanted to learn all he could about American history and the Civil War. On his 60th birthday, Harry, Lynne and daughter Kathryn traveled to Gettysburg, Antietam/Battle of Sharpsburg, Washington DC, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Cooperstown where he quietly absorbed the surroundings of all those areas. He was a hobbyist at heart and accumulated a large array of professional baseball memorabilia, baseball cards and collector coins. He also liked to wander through antique stores looking for that special collectible for Lynne. He especially enjoyed family trips to Disneyland and the Oregon Coast where he was always on the lookout for agates and sand dollars. Harry found great joy in visiting his favorite bakery in Uptown Richland, Desserts by Kelly, to pick up chocolate chip cookies or chocolate cream pie. He always brought home a treat for himself and Lynne!
Harry had many lifelong friends who brought him happiness during their activities together whether it was for a walk or visits to the coffee shop. There were numerous trips to Seattle with family and friends to watch the Seattle Mariners baseball games. He also enjoyed cruises, his favorite was to Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by Lynne and children Kathryn (Matthew) Aldape and Allison King. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren: Joseph, Amaya, Natalie and Declan. Also, his sister-in-law Mara and brother-in-law Jan Jackson and their children Christine (Jason) Witt, their children Jenna and Jackson, and Sarah (Burton) Williams. Harry was loved and will be greatly missed.
Harry’s funeral will be held Friday, October 11, 2024, at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home in Richland. Viewing 1:00 pm, graveside service 2:00 pm, reception will follow at Einan’s Event Center at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation – https://www.parkinson.org/ – or a charity of your choice.
“A light from our household is gone, a voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled.” Excerpt from the poem, “A Light Is Gone”
Deepest sympathy to the entire family.
I can remember the day that you became my Dad like yesterday. I am so lucky to be able to call you my Dad. Your love, guidance and humor will continue to guide me the rest of my life. You were and will continue to be, the best man, father, and grandfather we have ever known. I love you Daddy.
Hey Papa. I hope you’re in a better place now. I remember having the best time hanging out with you in the garage and watching the baseball games and stuff. Those are my best and favorite memories I have with you. I hope you are out of pain now and i hope you know that even though I’m not there I did, have, and always hold you in a special place in my heart. Lots of love from Natalie King. I love you, Papa.
To my Papa, my favorite memories with you will always be hanging out with you in the garage, looking at all your cool stuff, looking at all your baseball cards, and hanging with you in your office. I used to love to look at all your treasures with you. Last thing was sharing all your yummy treats, you always had the best. I love you very much, I will miss you Papa…you were the best. Love, Declan
I knew Harry in High School and in the 1980’s before moving away from Richland. He was a decent, kind gentleman, my sincerest sympathy to his family and close friends.
I agree with everything Rick Herrington said
It’s all true for me too.

Was sorry to hear of Harry’s passing. We grew up together in the Baptist Church ……May you cherish his memory and may he rest in peace
I’ve know Harry and his parents from an early age starting at First Baptist Church, in Richland, and throughout our school years. His parents were wonderful people and Harry was no different. A great guy that will be missed by his family. I
