Alison Gail Barrett

On the morning of October 22, 2024, Alison Gail Barrett left us unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that touched all who knew her. In her honor, a memorial service will be held in Richland, Washington at Einan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 4 at 10:00 AM with a Graveside Service at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will also be held in Riverton, Wyoming on November 16 at the United Baptist Church. All who knew her and loved her are welcome.

Born on March 4, 1959, to Kenneth John Blehm and Mary Alice Blehm in Olathe, Kansas, Alison’s early years as part of a Navy Family took her on a journey to different parts of the world as far away as Yokosuka, Japan. When her father retired from the Navy, the family settled in Dayton, Oregon, where they laid down roots.

After graduating from Dayton High School in 1977, Alison and her sister, Laura, moved to Gladstone, Oregon. Searching for her place in the world, Alison considered joining the Navy herself, but a visit to a recruiting station would change the course of her life. There, she met Scott Barrett, a newly minted 3rd Class Petty Officer, who convinced her to chart a different path-one that began with marriage rather than military service. The two were married on March 20, 1978, at the Church of Christ in Oregon City, Oregon, and soon set off on their adventure of building a life and family together.

As Scott’s naval career led to long hours and frequent deployments, Alison was the steadfast heart of their home, raising their three children while he served in the nuclear field and later during his deployment to Iraq with the Army National Guard. After her years of unwavering devotion to raising her family, her love for small towns and open spaces led the couple to retire to Riverton, Wyoming in 2019.

Alison was a woman of many gifts, from nurturing children to cooking, sewing, crafting, and gardening. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, often serving as a safe haven for family and friends alike. To support her daughter’s gymnastics career, Alison took on the role of managing a local gymnasium, demonstrating her dedication to her children’s passions. She also helped her son manage three paper routes, always ready to lend a hand and instill a strong work ethic. With a natural talent for creativity and a genuine desire to help others, she started her own sewing business and shared her skills through teaching sewing classes. Alison also had a unique gift for connecting with people, inspiring them to be their best, and stepping into leadership roles when needed. Her quiet strength and compassion left an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Alison is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Barrett; her son Greg and daughter-in-law Deena Barrett; her daughter Lisa Barrett; her grandson Andrew and his wife Maggie Barrett; her granddaughters Riley Walker and Avery Barrett; her great-grandson Adam Barrett; her sisters Laura Hill and Susan Sofich; her brothers Mike and Steve Blehm; and her mother Mary Jones. She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Blehm, her brothers John and Eric Blehm, and her beloved daughter Jennifer (Barrett) Walker.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you Scott, and your son and daughter and extended family. I met your wife Alison though my association with your daughter Lisa, and her gymnastic career. I was the assistant gymnastics coach at Carmichael MS when Lisa was there, along with head coach Rod Ostboe. I was the balance beam coach; I was always in awe of Lisa’s ability in gymnastics. I also helped with Ostboe as the Richland HS coach. Alison was always so supportive of Lisa: a mom cheerleader! I also taught senior US Government at Richland High School; I had Lisa as a senior my class. Lisa excelled in my class! I meet Lisa, as an adult, when she worked briefly at WA. State Ageing and Long-Term Care, my wife is an RN there. Lisa has been to our home for dinner. I think very highly of Lisa! Scott, you and Allison has so much love for Lisa, as you made your new home in Wyoming.
I extend my love and prayers in the loss of your wife (Alison), Scott, and the loss of their mom to Lisa and Greg.
