Shirley May Adamson

89 yrs young

Born in a small rural town of Eagle Point Oregon, Shirley grew up with 5 siblings. She lived in the original homestead house on her family’s 7-acre farm. It included beef, pigs, chickens, milk cows, vegetable garden, hay, fruit, and bees. She attended church and a small-town school where grades were sometimes combined. A lively time of close family relations with two sisters (June and Peggy) that were within four years of each other, an older sister (Christine), an older brother (Ray) and a brother (Donald) 10 years younger.  Shirley was a homemaker / Store manager at Fabricland, she lived in Richland for 58 years.  She married Gerald Adamson in 1954 at the age of 19. She followed Jerry as a U.S. Army wife to Tacoma where her oldest son Ralph was born when she was 20. Shirley and Ralph moved back home to Eagle Point while Jerry served in Korea for a year.  When He returned, they lived a few towns over in Central Point where she had Jeff, her second son at 22. Shirley and Jerry then went to Klamath Falls for 2 yrs while he was in college. They moved to Las Vegas for 7 years and started raising Todd and Tami while Jerry worked at the Nevada test site. In 1967 they made a permanent home in Richland Washington, living in the same house for nearly 55 years.

Shirley and Jerry traveled the entire country year after year in their 5th wheel, seeking out family history locations and artifacts. They traveled many times to the southern deserts, taking in the spring blooms of flowers.

She loved sewing and gardening; she took loving care of all her plants including the heirloom apple tree Duchess of Oldenburg.  She was very proud of her family stating many times “we have a wonderful family.”  Shirley is survived by her Husband Jerry Adamson, Son Ralph Adamson, his Wife Judith Adamson, Son Jeff Adamson and Daughter Tamera Camorlinga. They have 12 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son Todd Adamson, and Grandson Marcus Adamson.

Viewing will be Saturday 11/2 at 8 A.M. Einan’s Sunset Gardens Event Center with graveside service at 10 A.M. 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland WA

  • Shirley had a wonderful life and she was so thrilled with each new grandchild and then great grandchildren. I saw many photos of family gatherings. A beautiful family. I have many happy memories of the seven years we lived next door to you all. Your folks were like an aunt and uncle to our children – especially David and Denise. Shirley really loved those babies! We had so many adventures together. I’m remembering picking fruit out in Benton City and helping each other canning it. And then I remember one Christmas when we decided to make candles in our kitchens-what a happy mess!! Your mom was a great emotional support for me at times. I think back over the years when we lived in Richland and am so thankful and blessed by the friendship Larry and I shared with your folks. Your mom and I laughed together so many times. I remember one time sitting in your family room drinking coffee when, all at once, we saw Todd jump off the roof into the backyard! She ran to the door and yelled ” what are you doing”! Todd, very calmly replied “I asked and you said ok”! We decided we needed to pay closer attention to what the kids were doing/saying!!
I am keeping you all in my prayers and send you our love. Jody
