Harold “Hal” Stivers

Harold (Hal) Stivers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at his home in Richland, Washington. Born on December 11, 1925, at his family’s home in Boise, Idaho, Hal was the cherished son of Lelah (Jones) and Fred Stivers.

Hal’s life was a testament to the values of dedication, love, and perseverance. On May 29, 1954, he married the love of his life, LuElla (Lally) Johnson. Together, they shared a remarkable journey filled with love, companionship, and unwavering support for each other. Hal’s commitment to his family was the cornerstone of his life.

Hal and Lally were blessed with four children: Randy, Brad, Troy, and Lisa. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he took great pride in watching his children grow and thrive.

Hal’s dedication to learning first led him to Boise Junior College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Mathematics. He then continued his education at the University of Idaho, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Following his graduation, Hal embarked on a successful career as a civil engineer, working tirelessly until his retirement in 1988.

Throughout his nearly 99 years, Hal touched the lives of many with kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

In this time of loss, let us remember Hal for the remarkable person he was and celebrate the full and meaningful life he lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Richland Lutheran Church Good News Program or Tri cities Chaplaincy- Hospice Care in Kennewick.

  • What a wonderful life!

This slideshow spans a remarkable run as the family grows and blooms around the centerpiece of Hal’s terrific smile, and Lally’s guiding presence.

Share the fortune of knowing the Man, smile at what was, and cherish the memory….peace and love to all.

  • Dear Troy and Terri,
I was starting to think your dad was going to make 100 but I guess we don’t last forever.

When you were sorting through hundreds of pictures to produce a slide show of the “mandated” 75 pictures, I’m sure you were reminded of so many wonderful times in your dad’s life growing up, marrying your mom and raising you and your siblings.

It’s heartwarming to see your family come from far and wide to support your mom and each other. His legacy will undoubtedly continue through the love and memories you and your family share

Terri, we know how much you and Troy have been there for each other, and how much you both put into supporting Hal and Lally. I know Mr. Stivers mostly through Troys stories over the years and the more recent difficult updates in your efforts to keep him shuffling forward.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom and your entire family.

  • So sorry for your loss. Hal was a great friend to my parents Gloria and John Nesbitt and always entertained me and my brothers whenever we visited. I will always remember his train sets. A measure of a man is not if he will be remembered, but if he will be missed. I will miss Hal.
