Kimberly (Kim) Gay Kinder

Kim earned her wings on November 5th, 2024, at the age of 69 in Seattle, Washington after her second battle with Cancer in four years.

Kim was born in Saint Mary’s Hospital in Hammond Indiana January 21st of 1955 to Albert (AL) and Margaret (Marge) Lampton.  Her family moved to Richland WA when Kim was about 3 years of age.  Later she attended Lewis and Clark Elementary School, Carmichael Junior High School, and graduated from Columbia High School in 1974.  In 1989, Kim Graduated from Sierra College in Rocklin, CA with an associate in science degree, With Honors.  In 1995, Kim graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.   Then, Kim changed careers to become a programmer.  A self-taught, certified programmer, she landed her first job in programming.  As a result of her experience, she was hired by the California Office of Emergency Services and specialized in financial applications.  As her career developed, she expanded into web-based applications for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, where she retired in 2017.  Whenever she committed to something, she was driven to succeed.

Kim met her future husband Jeff in 1980.  Marriage for the happy couple came quickly in March of 1981, and they remained happily married for 43 years.

Those who knew Kim said she was always happy and full of joy.  Kim always looked for the best in others and put the needs of others before her own.  Always glad to be with others, but also happy to have some private “Kim” time.  She was also adventurous.  She took up parachuting for a time, rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and drove a jet ski.  Kim was also an excellent copilot in our airplane.

Kim had many hobbies.  Large stained-glass art, oil painting, watercolor painting, handmade custom greeting cards, jewelry making, and playing the piano and guitar.  Some of her happiest times were going on trips with the Porsche Club.  Although shy, she helped at many Sacramento Porsche Club events, including chairing some.  She won the Sacramento Porsche Club Rookie of the Year award in 1993.  She also won awards for her rib barbequing and chili making.  All of our dogs were always a source of great pleasure for her, most recently Sasha, a small Border Collie.

Kim was preceded in death by her father Al, Mother Marge, and brother Marc.

Kim is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Jeff, her brother Bill, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of life will be held on May 3rd, 2025, at 11am at Einans Event Center/ Events at Sunset with a reception to follow.  915 Bypass Hwy Richland WA 99352

In lieu of flowers, you might consider a donation to the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle in Kim’s honor.

She was a light in everyone’s life who knew her and will be deeply missed.  She will live on in spirit with all who knew her.
