Celebration of Life
Phyllis Rae Snuggs
Phyllis Rae Snuggs, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, in Kennewick, Washington, at the age of 86.
Born on June 24, 1938, in Toppenish, Washington, Phyllis was the daughter of John and Verene Shearer. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1956 and attended Yakima Valley Junior College. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Don Snuggs. The two high school sweethearts married in 1958, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span 66 wonderful years.
Phyllis was the cherished and devoted wife to Don, with whom she shared countless memories, and the proud mother to their four children: Robin (Mike) Berkenbile, Brad (Lynn) Snuggs, Brenda (Roger) Gilchrist, and Tana (Wes) Strietzel. She was a deeply loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a joyful “Gigi” to 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Her family was the heart of her world, and she found immense joy in spending time with them, nurturing them with warmth, kindness, and a constant presence of love.
Known for her gentle spirit, Phyllis had a deep sense of compassion and a quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew her. Whether it was in her role as a mother or grandmother, or as a friend, Phyllis was always there to offer support, laughter, and a listening ear. She will be remembered not only for her devotion to her family but also for her generosity, grace, and the enduring love she gave so freely.
A true matriarch, Phyllis created a home filled with love, laughter, and delicious meals. She delighted in family gatherings, always ready to share her cooking talents and make each moment special. Phyllis loved traveling, golfing, and spending winters in Palm Desert, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. She had many friends, whose lives she enriched with her kindness and cheerful personality. She was also a proud and active member of P.E.O. for 46 years, a sisterhood committed to supporting women’s educational opportunities.
Phyllis and Don were the proud owners of Frontier Fence for many years. While Phyllis retired in 2000, the business continued to thrive under their leadership, a testament to her dedication and hard work.
She faced her battle with dementia with grace and courage, supported by the unwavering love of her family. She was outgoing, always smiling, and well-liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, kindness, and positivity left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Don; her children and their spouses; her 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Verene Shearer.
A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis’s incredible life will be held at Einan’s Events at Sunset 915 Bypass Hwy, Richland, Wa on Monday, December 9th, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Chaplaincy Health Care in Kennewick, WA, in memory of Phyllis Snuggs. Donations can be made online at https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E349096&id=33.
