Mary Margaret Pettyjohn, aged 93, passed away on December 12, 2024, in West Richland, Washington. Born on April 11, 1931, in International Falls, Minnesota, she was a devoted matriarch and a cherished member of her community.
Mary’s life was marked by her dedication to her family and her career. She married T.J. Pettyjohn on February 27, 1954, and together they navigated the joys and challenges of life until his passing in April of 1997. A loving mother and grandmother, Mary is survived by her brothers John (Sue) Mahoney, Guy Mahoney, and Pat (Claire) Mahoney; sisters Kathy Claphan and Eileen Logman; sister-in-law Nicole Mahoney; her children Lisa Becker, Marie Pettyjohn, Joe Pettyjohn, Karen Pettyjohn, and Mike (Peppi) Pettyjohn; along with 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Professionally, Mary was a licensed practical nurse who provided compassionate care in the newborn nursery at both the old and new Kadlec Hospitals. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she cared for many newborns in the community. After her nursing career, she worked at the U.S. Post Office in Pasco, Washington, until her retirement following a victorious battle against cancer.
Mary was also an accomplished stained-glass artist. Her creative works, including lamp shades, Christmas ornaments, and pictures, were well-known in the local art community. She was actively involved with Beaux Art and Allied Arts, and her pieces were featured in shops in Richland and Prosser.
Preceded in death by her parents Jennie and Floyd Mahoney, her brother and sister-in-law James and Huguette Mahoney, brother William Mahoney, sister-in-law Rosemary Mahoney, and her beloved husband T.J. Pettyjohn, Mary’s legacy of love, resilience, and creativity will live on through her family and all who knew her.
May you have a light afterlife G-ma. I love you
The most beautiful and loving aunt a nephew could have. I will miss you and you will forever be in my heart.
Condolences from one of your Minnesota cousins. Your family is in my family’s thoughts and prayers even if we can’t be there in person.

Aunt Mary was always warm, loving, and quick with a hug and a smile. I always looked forward to spending time with her when visiting, and I regret not visiting with her as often as I could have. She was the best of us.
Love to the family!
