Mark Andrew Hoshii, age 37, was born on March 22, 1987, in Monterey, California, and passed away in Richland, Washington, on January 30, 2025. He was at a very young age when he developed a special teasing glint in his eye. Though Mark was quiet and reserved, those who knew him best saw his personality shine. He loved to tease and play practical jokes.

Mark is survived by his stepfather and mother, Alan and Tami Robbins, of Pasco, Washington; his father and his stepmother, Henry and Heather Hoshii, of Gilroy, California; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Micheal Szody of Pacific Grove, California; sister, Charlotte Hoshii; and brother, Harrison Hoshii of Gilroy, California. Known as “Uncle Puncle,” Mark is survived by his nieces, Destiny and Nevaeh, and nephews, Nathan, Darrius, and Malakai. He is also survived by his former wife, Leanna Shelley, who remained close friends and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dwight and Robin Halstead; grandfather, Henry Hoshii, Sr.; grandmother, Dicie Burger; nephew Collin, Uncle Paul, Aunt Mindi, Uncle Scott, Aunt Kim, and Cousin Tabitha.

Mark began BMX racing at the age of 12, a love for which he never lost. He raced throughout California, winning many first place finishes. Though he had not been able to ride a bike for several years, he was restoring a BMX bike in the hope that he would one day ride again.

Mark was a baseball player as he grew up through high school (Monterey High School) from which he graduated in 2005. He also collected baseball cards and memorabilia, of which he took great pride.

Though he suffered from numerous illnesses, Mark worked at Office Depot in Kennewick, Washington, which he truly enjoyed.

Two Celebrations of Life will be held. The first at the Keewaydin Community Center in Kennewick, Washington, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m.  The second will be on a date to be determined in the Monterey, California, area.
