A short remembering of Richard Stephen Wittman:
Richard Stephen Wittman (Witt) was born on June 26, 1932 in Passaic NJ to George and Margaret Wittman who were first generation Hungarian immigrants. Witt spent his early years growing-up with his older brother George Jr. in Hackettstown, NJ. He moved to Little Falls NJ for high school where he joined the Marine reserves. He was then deployed to front line combat in Korea where his efforts resulted in serious wounds for which he was awarded the purple heart. On returning to finish high school he dated the love of his life, Peggy (Peg), and they were married in 1957. Both pre[1]family and with a young family, Witt pursued several career paths including teaching physical education, drafting and industrial work. As a result of his hard work and initiative he ended his career as a laboratory assistant with a major chemical company. Over the years, he and Peg loved gardening and enjoyed many harvests of their labors. Witt was an avid sports fan – notably of Notre Dame football which reminded him of his own high school experiences. A realized dream of his life was visiting South Bend IN with his wife Peg. Because of his love of sports and experience in the Marines he was healthy, fit and strong most of his 92 year life. In retirement, Witt and Peg moved to the Oregon coast where they enjoyed whale watching, neighbors and especially traveling to Hawaii and Europe. Witt gave serious attention to learning the Hungarian language for their trips to Hungary. After a sudden loss of Peg he moved to Richland WA were he could receive extra care with family. Witt passed away on January 4, 2025. He will be remembered for his deep love for Peg and his caring commitment to his family. Witt is survived by his daughter Kathi Whittington, his son Rick Wittman, daughter-in-law Nancy Wittman, his granddaughters Aletheia Wittman, Elliot Wittman, Kristen Partida and Jenni Dawson and great-granddaughters Pippa and Paislee.
A memorial service will be held at Brookdale Richland, 2pm 1/9/202
I had the pleasure of taking care of Richard while I was at Brookdale. He was always so sweet and caring and kind. I remember always asking him when I saw him if he was doing ok or if he needed anything and he would always say “No thank you I’m doing ok.” He will definitely be missed 😢
I love you Dad. You will always be with me.
