Celebration of Life
Reception
Scott Boolen
In loving memory of Scott LaVerne Boolen.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Boolen, who left this world far too suddenly on February 18, 2025, at the age of 65, joining his parents Richard and Leta LaVerne, and brother Mike, in heaven. His journey here was marked with humor, a love for sports and coaching kids, but primarily his deep love, support and compassion for his children – Dustin, Aimee, and Jason.
Scott was born on May 12,1959, in Wenatchee, WA, moving with his family shortly after his birth to Richland, WA. Scott was a beloved son, brother and father. Growing up in a family of six children, days at home were usually hectic. Scott took it upon himself to keep everyone entertained with his wit, especially around the dinner table when his comments were so funny that some would fall out of their chairs in uncontrollable laughter.
Scott attended Richland schools and graduated from Hanford High School in 1977. His athletic abilities in high school were well known as he held school records in track and field for high jump and javelin for many years. What many don’t know is Scott’s athletic ability actually began as a child in tap and ballet dancing.
After graduation and a couple of years playing college basketball, Scott started a career in home construction and remodeling which he continued for the rest of his life. His ability to do every phase of home remodeling was amazing – doing things on his own that should have taken 2 or 3 people. Whenever a family member asked for help the answer was always yes. He truly was a “jack of all trades”.
Scott was a great dad; always closely involved in his kids’ lives growing up – helping with math homework, volunteering for school trips,
donating his weekends constructing school play sets with Dustin, taking Aimee back and forth between ballet lessons and volleyball matches, and coaching Jason through years of little league.
Scott was also very active playing, coaching and officiating volleyball. Blessed with a unique ability to encourage and support young athletes, his true passion was coaching Club Gold and Richland High School girls’ volleyball, which hedid for many years. Our family will always be grateful for Scott’s love and care he gave to our parents. His dedication for years as a live in care provider meant that our mother could stay in her home when many elderly don’t get that option.
Scott is survived by his children Dustin Boolen (Sergio), Aimee and Jason Boolen, brothers Paul (Shawna) Boolen, Lane (Linda) Boolen, Frank Boolen, sister Susan Middlemas, nieces and nephews Christopher, Elizabeth, Michelle, Erin, Connor, Jessica, Ethan, Audrey, Jennifer, Noah, Miranda, Sara, Jeffery and many grandnephews and niece
I was struck having just learned about Scott’s death. He was in my sister Patty’s class at Hanford High and we were blessed to enjoy a lot of time spent with him at our home. He always fit right in and brought happiness to our lives. I worked with his mother at Westinghouse and clearly saw how his mother’s beautiful spirit passed on to Scott. May God bless Scott’s children and family and may he reconnect in Heaven with my dear sister.
So sorry to hear the news of Scott’s passing. Have fond memories of our days at HHS and your humor, wit and friendship. You helped talk me into going out for baseball my junior year. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and didn’t even own a mitt. You gave me your beautiful Wilson A2000 to use that season. I believe my record of 3 errors in one play still stands !
Was always a pleasure running into you around town and catching up. I will miss you my friend.
Rest in peace Boo !
I am very saddened to learn of Scott’s passing. I have known him since his Hanford Middle and High School days. Funny, yes; smiling, yes; and always ready with a happy hello and a kind word. He cared so much for his kids and really his whole family. We talked about caring for aging parents. When our Mom was still in her home, he actually stopped by to tell her he would do any chores or repairs she needed!
We will all miss him.
