Sandra Mauws
Sandra Marie Mauws, 81 of Pasco, passed away on April 9, 2025. She died very peacefully, in her sleep, quite soon after discovering a cancerous tumor in her lung. She was born on March 29, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, of Irish and German heritage. She grew up and went to school in Pittsburgh and enlisted in the Army there in 1976. After basic training in Alabama, she was stationed at the Presidio (now a National Park) in San Francisco, California, where she was a truck mechanic and then in Germany where she served as a supply specialist. She was a marksman with the M16 rifle and earned the Army Commendation Medal. She was discharged in 1981, and moved to the Tri-Cities.
She worked at Energy Northwest for several years and married Leslie C. Mauws, originally from Judith Gap Montana.
Sandy is preceded in death by her husband Leslie who passed in August of 2023 her mother, Catherine Ceecilia Schad Malloy, her father Bobert Paul Malloy and her son Kenny Scheirer. She is survived by two sisters, Catherine and Marry Michelle her son Eddie Scheirer and beloved granddaughter Melissa Anne Butler.
Her partner, for the last year and a half was Larry Flint of Richland, who lost his wife just a month before she lost her husband. They both helped each other through the grieving process and had many shared experiences, as Army veterans and having worked together in 1981, when they both moved to this area.
She loved dogs (at one point, she had five) and she and her husband traveled with them around the U.S in their RV. She had a good sense of humor that could be flippant and teasing at times. She could be tough but also gentle. She treasured time with her friends and will be missed.
Sandy was my first friend that I met when we both started at Energy Northwest in 1981. She called me Doris as she thought that I reminded her of Doris Day. I am so glad that I was able to spend so much time with her during her illness. We still were able to laugh at her jokes! We remained friends even though we had other jobs. I will miss her.
Sandra,
You came into my life at a pivotal time. I am so grateful for our shared experience. I think we were good for each other. You will certainly be missed.
