Peter “Vic” Pravato

Peter “Vic” Pravato passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025.

Vic was born to Peter and Rose Pravato on February 26th, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York and grew up on Long Island with his older sister, Babe, and many cousins. He joined the Army in 1954 and after basic training, was stationed at Camp Hanford as a Meteorologist. While stationed there, he met the love of his life, Barbara. After his time in the service was done, he returned to New York but soon realized he couldn’t stay away from Richland, or Barbara, any longer. Vic and Barbara were married in a small ceremony at her parent’s home on December 20th, 1958. They welcomed daughter, Vicki, in 1960 and daughter, Jennifer, in 1966. Vic worked at the Go-C-Us service station in Kennewick for many years. In the early 70’s, he started working as a pipefitter in Big Pasco. That job turned into a long career as a pipefitter in both building trades and construction on the Hanford site. He retired in the late 90’s as a proud member of the UA Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 598.

In retirement, Vic and Barb spent countless hours antiquing, thrifting and yard sale-ing. He enjoyed fixing up the furniture they’d find, and Barb could always find something to keep him busy. Vic also spent a lot of time working in the yard and could often be found fussing over his prized Japanese maple tree that he affectionately nicknamed Snuffy after it’s striking resemblance to the Sesame Street character. Rumor has it that he would even trim individual blades of grass if they weren’t looking just right!

Vic’s proudest accomplishment was his family. Known to his grandkids and great grandkids as Boppa, he was a faithful presence at every event, game and concert. The kids knew he’d be there, with boots on (literally). The kids also knew that if they were staying over at Nana and Boppa’s, they could count on Boppa having at least 5 different loaves of bread and an extensive array of sandwich fixings at the ready. Always quick to have the gal at the Freddie’s deli counter slice the +salami just a little thinner, his strict sandwich standards made his sandwiches the very best… just one of the many things about him that his family will miss so much.

Vic is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara, along with his parents and sister, Babe. He is survived by daughters Vicki (Dale) Oakley and Jennifer (Keith) Walker; grandchildren Janell (Garrett) Bunch, Joshua (Gabby) Oakley, Aaron (Shelby) Oakley, Megan Oakley, Sarah Dolin and Jack Dolin; and great grandchildren Harper, Marlowe, Norah, Warren, Oliver and Emily.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Craftsman House at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland for the kindness and dignity extended to Vic this year, and for the comfort our family experienced while he was in your care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in Vic’s name be made to Second Harvest Tri-Cities.
