Kevin Alfred Elliott

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kevin Alfred Elliott at the age of 61 on January 27, 2026. He fought an extremely valiant fight, and we were blessed by the time we had with him. He was born on February 21, 1964, in Sunnyside, Washington to Carter and Arlys Elliott. He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1982 and joined the U.S. Air Force in the same year. He served as an Eagle Keeper in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 to 1986. Following his military service, he attended Columbia Basin College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in 1988, then attended WSU Tri-Cities and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. After four years of dating, he married Caroline Padilla in Sunnyside, Washington on April 27, 1991. After a year of marriage, they purchased their family home in Benton City and Kevin continued to reside there until his death.

He worked as an Advisory design engineer at Framatome (formerly Siemens, then AREVA) from 1990 until his cancer diagnosis in 2023. He designed commercial nuclear fuel components for reactors around the world specializing in cage spacer design, reaching an expert status. He led and assisted with projects at nuclear facilities in the US, France, Germany, Japan and Taiwan. He traveled extensively for work over the years, and he enjoyed experiencing new cultures, learning languages, and bringing back souvenirs for his family.

In his free time, he loved spending time with his family, getting a beer with work colleagues, or off-roading in the mountains with friends and relatives. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, visiting family in Minnesota, and going boating on the Columbia River.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Elliott, and three children, Chelsie, Megan, and Jared Elliott. He is also survived by his brother Wesley Elliott, and two sisters Cheryl Stitt (Elizabeth) and Carolynn Elliott. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Arlys Elliott.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Events at Sunset Gardens – 915 Bypass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352, with a reception to follow. For those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation. The Tri-Cities Cancer Center provided wonderful care to Kevin after his diagnosis and the work they do to support cancer patients, and their families is beyond priceless.

  • Uncle Kevin you were such a brilliant man. My condolences to my 3 cousins & my aunt I hope y’all have peace through this hard time. I remember all the fun times as a kid going off roading in the mountains, fishing in the rivers and lakes and even trying uncle Kevin’s home made beer 🙂 it’s been many years since I seen him but he was such a fighter. When I last spoke to him he was in such high spirits truly blessed to have lived long beyond what the doctors had expected. May he rest in peace. I’m sure he’s watching from above proud of all his children and his wife for being so strong. Sending love & prayers to you all.

  • Kevin was a colleague and friend. Words are hard to properly convey the emotions at this moment. I have so much respect for Kevin’s life of dedication, generosity, and love. One example of Kevin demonstrating these attributes is with a simple act of service. During COVID, we were taking about things we were doing with our families. Kevin volunteered to bring my kids a tetherball pole he had at his house. It’s been a staple in our backyard since. A simple gesture that has provided years of fun for our family. His genuine kindness is missed.

  • I had the privilege of working with Kevin since 2011. Over those years, I got to see the kind of person he was, both at work and in life. He loved his kids deeply and was always proud of them. Whenever they accomplished something, graduated, or hit a milestone, he would put it up on his whiteboard. It was not loud or showy, but in its own way, it felt like he was shouting it from the rooftops.

Kevin was a kind and honest person, and he made me a better person just by being around him. He was someone people respected, not just for his work, but for how he carried himself every day.

When I turned 40, I had an itch to finally get a boat. I grew up fishing with my dad in Southeast Alaska. I missed the water, the smell, and the steady sound of a boat motor. I had been looking for a boat and doing my research, and Kevin would always offer advice, but nothing ever seemed quite right.

At one point, Kevin told me his time with his boat had come and gone, and he offered it to me. I didn’t hesitate. I said yes right away, and we shook on it. I remember him pausing for a second, realizing he probably could have asked for more, but that was Kevin.

What meant even more was what came after. He didn’t just sell me the boat. Kevin took the time to teach me everything. How to launch, how to navigate, even how to finetune the performance prop he had researched and purchased. The boat was 20 years old and in immaculate condition. That was the kind of pride he took in things, and the kind of care he showed to people.

There was a night months later when he finally got to relax and just enjoy being out on the water. The sun was setting, the weather was perfect, and we were cruising. We passed a phone around and each picked a song. When it was Kevin’s turn, he picked something I didn’t expect, something from his younger days, loud, fun, and full of energy (butt rock in all its glory!). It felt like he was right back there, wind in his hair, just enjoying the moment. That is my forever memory of Kevin.

I remember him sharing a story about a man who had passed away at work after spending years preparing for retirement. That story stuck with him, and it shaped how he chose to live his own life. Kevin was always prepared, he had a spreadsheet for everything, but he also made a decision early on to truly live. He showed me you could do both things. He invested in experiences, spent time in the mountains, and embraced life with intention, something I deeply respected.

He loved his work and was great at it, but he also understood what mattered most. His family was at the center of everything, and it was clear how much they meant to him.

Kevin had an incredible reputation, and he was someone we all looked up to. He will be deeply missed. He had a great impact on my life and how I approached things, especially with my family and it is something I will carry with me for the rest of my days.

People like Kevin, with his kindness, his love for his craft, and his devotion to his family, remind us that the world is a better place because of people like him. And through the family he raised and the people he influenced, his impact continues.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is incredibly hard, and my thoughts are with your family. Kevin meant a great deal to all of us.

  • I worked with Kevin at the Richland fuel fab plant for 32 years. He was a pleasure to work with; he had a great sense of humor and optimism even during difficult times. Kevin nearly always had his trademark cheerful smile and was an easy going yet dedicated professional. Even after his diagnosis, he was cheerful and positive. Please be assured of the eternal nature of Kevins spirit, and that in the eternities he always be a husband and father. Wend and I share our heartfelt condolences to Caroline, Chelsie, Megan, and Jared.

  • Kevin was a very special man. His love for his family and friends was very clear and demonstrated frequently. We also loved seeing his passion for life and adventures.

At work he was a hard working engineer who was always mindful of being on the manufacturing floor and listening to all inputs…and would do it with a big smile! He took on a lot of the most challenging issues and invariably came out on top of the issue.

Sympathies to Caroline, the kids and all of his family

  • Kevin was truly a remarkable man, someone whose character and integrity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

His talent and dedication were matched only by the respect he showed to those around him. He carried himself with a level of professionalism that is rare, and his contributions will not be forgotten.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for the kind of person he was.

  • Kevin was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Kindness and generosity were fundamental bases of his nature. On many occasions, Kevin volunteered to keep outdoor spaces cleaned up and trails accessible. Kevin offered road trips, boat trips and off-road excursions to my family and many others. We always had a great time with Kevin on these trips! Kevin had many adventures, had stories to share, and always had a smile on his face.

On the engineering front, Kevin was extraordinary. Kevin had a natural intuition on all things mechanical. He solved so many issues at work that he quickly became the ‘go-to’ guy for solving problems. This was recognized and resulted in Kevin twice earning Engineer of the Year. Kevin was named to the Framatome North America College of Experts.

Kevin is deeply missed. It was truly a pleasure to know and work with Kevin.

  • I worked 2 offices away from Kevin for 10 years and worked with him several years after that. BRILLIANT Engineer amongst great engineers. Love that guy. I have many beloved memories. When my engine blew in 2019, Kevin drove me to Wenatchee and towed it for me, just asked me to buy him a beer. I also spent a fun trip in Japan with him. I will really miss him…

  • Kath and I are saddened to hear of Kevin’s passing. We worked with him at Siemens/Framatome and enjoyed our interactions with him. I always looked forward to seeing him. After ENC/SPC/FA, I met an engineer who credited his degree to Kevin’s tutoring.

  • You could not know a nicer human being than Kevin and he maintained a positive and cheerful attitude throughout his battle with cancer. He was a delight to work with and a person of his caliber doesn’t come along very often. My husband and I had the most wonderful conversation with Kevin several months ago and his cheerful personality was heartwarming and will always be remembered. Rest easy Kevin, you were an amazing engineer and friend to us.
