Charlie Raffety

Charlie O. Raffety passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.

Born on February 9, 1939, in Cushings, Oklahoma to Elmer Raffety and Mable Shaull-Moore, Charlie grew into a man known for his generosity, loyalty, and steady presence.

More than anything else, Charlie loved his family. He married the love of his life, Beverley McCleary Raffety, in 1967, and together they built a life filled with memories, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.

Charlie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his wife, Beverley; his daughter, Jill; and his grandchildren, Jordan Eshelman, Brooke (Charlie) Cannon, Lindsey Eshelman, Brittany (Russell) Matheny, Blake (Jessica) Bruun, Delaney Richey, Shaylee Richey, Ty Matheny, and Breanna (Cade) Armstrong, along with his many great-grandchildren: Chloe (Eric), Brady, Chase, Brynnley, Paisley, Kendall, McKinley, Mazzlyn, Callen, and Channing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Delores Leonard, and Gayla Baird; his daughter, Connie Richey; and his son, Scott Richey.

Charlie had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and golfing. More than anything, he had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. He showed up for others in big ways and was someone you could always count on. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A viewing will be held Friday, April 3rd from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Einan’s Funeral Home.

A burial will follow on Saturday, April 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens, with a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. at Westside Church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to West Side Preschool Scholarship. Make your donation out to “West Side Church” with “In Memory of Charlie Raffety” on the memo line and mail to West Side Church 615 Wright Ave  Richland, WA 99352.

  • I remember when I came out at 16 (1997) and my grandmother called her siblings, Dolores and Charlie and they sat me down at what first felt like the Spanish inquisition. Eventually, after some tears my grandmother and aunt Dee Dee hugged me. Charlie looked on in disgust. That’s how I’ll always remember him.

  • Charlie was only good to the people his wife allowed him to be. Every good memory I have of this man was erased when he stole my inheritance and pretended it was what my mother, Gayla Baird, wanted. Hopefully the guilt caught up with him. Also, he didn’t believe in God, he told me in one of our last conversations.
