Michael Lynn Grace, of Richland, Washington, age 82, passed away on March 24, 2026.  He was a devoted and prayerful husband, father, and friend to many in the Tri-Cities community.

Mike was born on February 9, 1944, in Port Orchard, WA.  The third and youngest son of Homer and Vivian Grace, he grew up in the Methow Valley in a loving Christian home and accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age.  As a young man, he helped his parents in the apple orchards during the summer months and through the harvesting season.  He attended Pateros High School and graduated in 1962.  With the help of his parents, he purchased a small grocery store in Methow, and was the proud proprietor of Mike’s Market.  He became a butcher and purchased, with his brother-in-law, a small grocery store in Fall City, WA called Grace’s-Serv-U.

Mike met Carolyn Bushnell in the spring of 1972.  He immediately knew she was the love of his life and serenaded her with “According to My Heart” the night he met her.  After a very brief courtship, they married on November 4, 1972.  In November 1973, they welcomed their son, Brett Michael, and in December 1981, their daughter, Holly Elizabeth.  Mike said his proudest and most precious moments were the births of his children.

Mike devoted himself to a career in property development and sales. He developed the Jackpot Food Mart convenience store chain for Time Oil Company, carrying pictures of his family with him as he crisscrossed the PNW on countless business trips.  In 1983, Time Oil transferred him from the Seattle area to the Tri-Cities, where he and Carolyn later purchased the Pasco Tastee Freez.  As Carolyn managed the family restaurant, Mike moved on from Time Oil and worked in automobile sales for McCurley’s in the late 90’s.

In 2004, he joined Sunset Memorial Gardens in a sales position, rising to sales manager.  Here he found what he believed was his true calling and ministry, as he aided hundreds of families navigate grief, loss, and heartache.  Mike’s tender heart and gentle spirit allowed him to tell many about hope in Jesus during their most painful moments.  He helped create new and beautiful features on the grounds of Sunset Gardens cemetery and, after retirement, he continued to serve the Tri-Cities at Sunset and Einan’s Funeral Home as a board member.  He was honored to receive a Service Award for his contributions to the families of the Tri-Cities.

Mike was a gifted singer and taught himself to play the guitar at age 19 while he was in a body cast after spinal surgery.  He loved to sing and play when family came to visit, and composed two of his own songs of worship to the Lord.

Mike is preceded in death by parents Homer and Vivian Grace, brother Raymond, and son Timothy.  He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Brett (Kirsten) Grace, and their children Nicholas, Dorothy, and Christopher, and daughter Holly (Sony) Ramirez, and their children Grace, Francesca, and Cristian, brother David, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 11th, at 2pm at Grace and Truth Community Church.  Burial services to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

  • I work with Michael, many years as his CPA. His obituary captured many of the valuable characteristics I saw in Michael. I felt honored that he chose to consider me friend.
When I see these marvelous people pasd on, whom I grew to appreciate I am a little saddened and very thankful for the opportunity.

  • What a compassionate Person Mike was. He was always helpful during people’s time of grief when loosing a loved one. Not only at those times but any time you would see him. I lost my Dad in 2001 and 6 months later lost my Mom then to top it off we lost our Son in 2003, Mike helped us through those losses and helped us remember them in lasting gifts to the Cemetery with Benches where others can sit and reflect on loved ones. May God Bless and be with you and your family.

  • He was such a kind tender man who hired me at Sunset Gardens 20 years ago. It was a privilege to be under his wing. He taught me so much. He corrected me often, we laughed often, we praised Jesus often. He cared so much about the people he served, and worked with. He had a passion for this industry and had a love for Jesus that was infectious. The best boss I’ve ever had. Truly an inspiration.

In the last six years since his retirement, we would schedule time to visit one hour a month at the Richland, WA library. I truly miss our scheduled time together sharing, laughing, and talking bible stuff.

    Until we meet again . . .

  • Mike helped my wife and I set up our son’s burial arrangements back in 2006 and was comforting, compassionate and very understanding. I’m sure all who knew him and his family will miss him.
