George Catten Anderson
George Catten Anderson, a long time resident of Richland, died Saturday April 25th 2026. He was 92 years old. George was born on the 21st of February in 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 6th of nine children born to his loving parents Henry and Ethel Anderson. He spent his early childhood in Salt Lake City until World War Two was in full swing and his father took a job up in Washington State where the Government was building a new highly secret project for the war effort at Hanford. George lived in White Bluffs for a few months and then in Sunnyside Washington until the Government finished building the town of Richland to house the workers who worked on the Hanford Project in 1944. He lived in Richland for the rest of his life. He graduated from Richland High school in the class of 1953 where he excelled in Football and Basketball on the varsity teams and also excelled in academics and art while also working part time at a men’s clothing store, Dawson-Richards. He married his high school sweetheart, Anneta Loller, shortly after graduation and became a full time employee at Dawson-Richards. After their third child was born George attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and majored in Industrial Management, highest in his class. He came back to Richland to work out at Hanford but Grover Dawson offered him partnership in the store which was an offer he could not refuse and he spent the rest of his working years in retail. He eventually became the owner of Dawson-Richards Men and Boys Clothing Store and Lady Dawson’s in Richland and Lanter’s clothing store in Kennewick. Just a few weeks before he retired, his wife of 47 years of marriage passed away. They had raised 5 children.
George married Pam Kenitzer, a widow who had lost her husband about the same time that Anneta passed away. Pam and George were both retired. They were very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and they served a church mission in Kenya, Africa which was a thrilling experience for them and after they got home they served another mission as manager of the Kennewick Regional Welfare Storehouse. They also served in the Columbia River Temple for several years.
George had a winning personality, lots of ambition, and was a dedicated hard worker. He was born with a smile on his face. He had a great sense of humor. He loved to do carpentry work and by himself remodeled every house he lived in. He loved his family and loved to be with them. He loved the outdoors. He and his son and his three brothers enjoyed being together on their yearly 50 mile back packing hike up into the mountains near Mt. Rainer. He loved Kenta and his experiences there. He lived a full life and was a great example of service, love, energy, confidence, and generosity, and he had great faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Geroge and Pam have been happily married for 25 years.
George was preceded in death by his daughter Laura Leigh Fields and a son Kevin Paul Anderson and, two brothers, Henry and Richard Anderson and three sisters, Becky DeGraw, Shirley Fadely and Isabelle Wolfe.
George is survived by his wife, Pam, two daughters, Beckie Benson of San Diego, California, Cheryl and Russ Wakeham of Las Vegas, Nevada; and one son Robert Kerry Anderson and his wife LouAnn of West Richland. Also two sisters, Diane Volmer of West Richland and Linda Walley and husband Galen of Soap Lake Washington; and one brother, Kenton Anderson and wife Marilyn of Rexburg, Idaho; and several grandchildren and great Grandchildren, nephews and nieces and Pam’s two daughters, Wendy Mitchell of West Richland and Colleen French from Wenatchee, Washington.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, Washington on May 8, 2026, at 11 am.
Mr. Anderson created in Dawson Richards one of the finest clothing establishments in the region. I have many fond memories of shopping, visiting with the family staff, and getting outfitted for many weddings in his Uptown Richland shop. Sincere condolences to Kerry, Luanne, and the entire family.
To the Anderson family this is Gary Miller, I am so sorry about George ;but I’m more sorry that we assumed it was on Saturday. We are here on Saturday. Not knowing it was yesterday my deepest prayers and blessings to the family. Would have loved to see you all.
Dawson Richards and Mr. Anderson are a memorable part of my life. Decades later, I likely still have clothing from Dawson Richards. Kerry and Luanne have been dear friends since 1972. May God hold all of you in the palm of His hand during this sad time and passing of a genuine legacy.
So sorry for your loss, Kerry and LouAnn. Always enjoyed our trips to Dawson-Richards in large part because of your dad’s smile, and positive interactions…and, of course, professionalism.
