Gloria Gibbons of Richland, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026 with her loving family and caregiver at her side.
Gloria was born July 11, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to Hayden and Mamie Seibert, the second of three children. She was active in 4-H, singing in chorale groups, played French Horn, piano and the organ. She was from Des Moines, Iowa and has fond memories of her early years growing up on a farm.
Gloria graduated from Johnston High School in 1954. After high school, she completed two years at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa then received a Diploma of Nursing Degree from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, August 11, 1959.
She was first married to William Howard Sutherland in Grimes, Iowa on December 21, 1958. They started their married life in Seattle, Washington after Gloria’s graduation. Howard was employed at Boeing Aircraft in research work. They began to build their family, all three of their children were born in Seattle, Washington. The family moved to Richland, Washington in 1968 so Howard could go to work at the Hanford Site, with Richland becoming her almost forever home. The family relocated to Greensburg, Pennsylvania in 1972, returning to Richland in 1974.
Gloria’s faith was important to her and she was an active member of Richland Lutheran Church serving as their organist and a choir member. She also enjoyed serving at the Richland Senior Center and enjoyed singing in Joyful Blenders and Columbia Chorale.
She had six beautiful years with second husband, Daniel Gibbons, before he died in February 1991. They enjoyed traveling to the Oregon and Washington coasts, Durango, Colorado where Dan had been a physics professor at Fort Lewis College, and Hawaii; which they enjoyed so much they purchased a timeshare on Oahu.
From 1976-1994 Gloria worked as a Kadlec Medical Center staff nurse on surgical, medical and oncology departments. She also enjoyed being a facilitator for Kadlec cancer support group and the Pasco cancer support group when she returned from living in Vienna, Austria in 1995-1997.
Gloria enjoyed volunteering in the children’s schools and girl scouts. Family was always important to her and was blessed with four grandsons and five granddogs. She was always proud of the grandsons and it was a joy to spend time with them.
She will be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, compassion, will be forever loved and missed by all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hayden Le Roy and Mamie Francis (Steibel) Seibert, her brothers Garland Seibert and Captain Leland Seibert, her husbands William Howard Sutherland, Dan Gibbons and her nephew Joshua Seibert. She is survived by her daughter Diana ReNae (Sutherland) Daling and her husband Pat, their children Kyle and Jared, Gary Sutherland (son), and Susan (Sutherland) Rimpler (daughter) along with her children Stephen, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Kendra. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marlys Seibert of Clive, Iowa.
We would like to thank the numerous caregivers that took care of Gloria in her home over the past 9 years and the owner and staff at her adult family home where she resided for the past 7 months. We would also like to thank Gloria’s friends for their support and visits, as well as all of the families’ friends for their support over these last 10 years.
On Thursday, April 30th at 11am, please join her family for a graveside celebration at Einan’s Sunset Funeral Home in Richland. A reception will be held that same day at Clover Island in Kennewick at 1:30.
