Janice J. Chunn, a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities, Washington, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the Hospice House in Kennewick, Washington. She was surrounded by love. Janice and Malcom shared more than 55 wonderful years together, filled with love, patience, companionship, and unwavering support.
Born on July 22, 1945, and raised in Richland, Washington, Janice spent her entire life in the community she cherished. A proud graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1963, she later earned a degree in Secretarial Science from Columbia Basin College.
Janice devoted 44 years of her professional life to the Hanford site, where she worked with dedication and excellence for General Electric Co, J.A. Jones Construction Co, Kaiser Engineers, Fluor, and Fluor Federal Services. She was respected for her professionalism, strong work ethic, and warm spirit.
Janice’s greatest joy was bringing family together. She loved hosting dinners and making holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July especially memorable. Her Fourth of July celebrations were legendary. She was a wonderful cook and was always on the lookout for new recipes to try. Janice had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, and her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, and love. Janice was a devoted supporter of her children and grandchildren, faithfully attending graduations, plays, recitals, concerts, and sporting events. She could often be found raking baseball infields, running concession stands, and cheering from the sidelines. She was instrumental in the success of Richland American Little League, Pony League, Colt League, and Junior Legion baseball programs for many years. She was also an ardent supporter of the Richland Bombers.
Janice treasured travel and explored many beautiful places, including Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. Her favorite place was Kaanapali Beach in Maui, and her favorite international destination was London.
Janice was a loving wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her beloved husband, Malcom R. Chunn; her son, Michael M. Chunn and partner Erin Easton; her stepdaughter, Michelle R. Chunn and her partner, Tony Brown; her stepson, Malcom R. Chunn Jr. and his wife, Janet; grandchildren Lance Frisbee and wife Courtney, Matt Vickerman and wife Leah, Calvin Chunn and wife Kaylee, Alec Chunn and husband Shane, Vanessa Griffith and husband Josh, and Palmer J. Janice also leaves behind her very special friends, Curt and Janice Gunter, whose love and friendship meant so very much to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Macel Johnson; her brothers, Robert E. Johnson, William E. Johnson, and James N. Johnson; and her sister, Susie Haney.
Janice will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished always.

Janice was such a fun person. Enjoyed getting to know her through work and HHS baseball games.
Really special gal who was devoted to her family.
God’s blessings to all her family.
I met Janice in 1961 on a double date, that’s a few years ago! I was always happy to see her over the years, and got to know Malcom and then son Michael. My Mom Opal worked with Janice for many years at JA Jones, and thought the world of her.
I am sorry you have lost her, and you will miss her every day.
What a lovely person Janice was…smart, hardworking and fun.
Many fond memories of visiting with her during HHS baseball games.
So very sorry to hear of her passing.
God’s blessings to all her family.
