Martha Pope

Martha Pope, a vibrant and sassy woman whose charisma touched all who knew her, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 5, 2026.

Born in Americus, Georgia, Martha spent her early years in the South before building a beautiful life in Richland, Washington. There, alongside her beloved husband, Ray Pope, Jr., she proudly raised two strong-willed daughters.

Martha was known for her lively spirit, her deep love of family and friends, and her dedication to her work as a Histotechnician at Battelle. She brought care, precision, and heart to her profession, forming lasting friendships with colleagues who became like family.

She was an active and engaged member of the Tri-City Bicycle Club, and she generously gave her time volunteering with the Kadlec Auxiliary and the local Kiwanis Club. Whether through service, friendship, or simply her infectious laughter, Martha made every space brighter.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Idale Fain; her husband, Ray Pope, Jr.; her mother-in-law, Alice Wingard; her sister, Mary Jane Etheridge; her niece Dawn Holloway; brother-in-law Bobby Holloway; and sister-in-law Christine Fain.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jennifer Wilkerson and Mindy Pope; her son-in-law, Lee Wilkerson; and her grandsons, Austin and Noah Wilkerson. She is also survived by her sisters, Melanie Fain and Melanie’s wife Kathie Forney, and Dale Holloway; her brother, Benji Fain; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless extended family members.

Martha leaves behind a wide circle of dear friends and former coworkers who will forever cherish her kindness, humor, and generous spirit. She also leaves her beloved dog, Bella, who will remain in the loving care of her family.

Martha’s life was full of love, laughter, meaningful connections, and helping others get into ‘just enough trouble’. A characteristic that informs many of her childhood stories and on into adulthood. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Martha’s family will host a Celebration of Life at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home. Please join for smiles, tears, laughter, and storytelling.

If moved to do so, in lieu of flowers, Martha would appreciate donations in her honor to your local Kiwanis organization or to Heartlinks Hospice which can be done online Heartlinks Hospice & Palliative Care in Yakima & Tri-Cities or by calling 509-837-1676.
