Karen Vinson
Karen had a way of making people feel loved, welcomed, and seen. Her strength, humor, and faith touched the lives of everyone around her.
Karen Vinson was born to Loyd and Doris Smith in Tacoma, Washington, on June 27, 1941. She was a mother of five, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and faithful believer in Jesus Christ. Karen built a life rooted in love, perseverance, and joy. Though she endured heartbreak along the way, including the loss of two of her children, she continued through life with a deep strength, grit, and fierce love for the people around her.
She was spunky and feisty in the very best ways. Karen was full of personality, honesty, humor, and heart. She was imperfect, as we all are, but she carried within her a deep understanding that God’s love for her was never conditional. Her faith in Jesus was not about pretending to have everything together; it was about knowing that she was loved exactly as she was in every moment and every season of life. Karen loved The Lord and knew who held her in the best and hardest of moments. That understanding shaped the way she loved others — openly, faithfully, and without expecting perfection from them.
Karen worked hard for everything she built. She started with very little, but that never stopped her from creating a life rich in family, memories, and a deep care for others. She showed love in everyday ways: making herself available to help as people had needs, spending quality time with others, laughing or being spooked during movie nights, sharing meals, or simply sitting beside the people she loved most.
In recent years, she especially cherished quiet moments with family, car rides together, beading with friends, frozen yogurt outings, and trips to the movie theater. She found joy in simple, meaningful moments and treasured the people she shared them with.
The life Karen created was not measured by wealth or perfection, but by the people she loved and the memories she leaves behind.
She will be remembered for her strength, laughter, faith, stubborn spark, and the way she made ordinary moments feel meaningful. Her story is one of resilience, love, and grace — a reminder that a beautiful life is not a flawless one, but one lived with heart.
Her love remains woven into the lives of all who knew her.
