Melvin “Mel” Parker
Mel Parker, born October 11, 1946, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 79. Mel was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and grew up in Tempe, Arizona. In 1968, he moved to Pasco, Washington, before eventually settling in West Richland, Washington, where he spent the remainder of his life with his wife Charlotte (Charlee) Parker.
Mel proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee (CB), serving with dedication and honor before receiving an honorable discharge in August 1967. Following his military service, he began a long and respected career as a pipefitter. He worked through the Pipefitters Union from 1968 until his retirement in 2006 and remained a proud member of Local 598 throughout his life.
Mel was known for his hardworking nature, steady presence, and ability to fix or build just about anything. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and working in the yard. He had a deep appreciation for music, loved cooking for family and friends, and was always tinkering with projects around the house. Over the years, he also enjoyed scuba diving and woodworking, hobbies that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his creativity. He had a special love for dogs, especially schnauzers (Twit, Oz and Bo), which brought him endless companionship and joy.
Mel was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Niki Huntley; his parents, Anna Mae Abney Parker and Ray Readies Parker; friend Chuck Murphy, and his childhood friend, Bobby Bryant.
He is survived by his spouse, Charlotte Corbett; his son, Aaron Parker and wife Gloria; his stepson, Joe Corbett and wife Adria; his grandchildren, Ryan Parker, Samantha and Kyle Smith, Austin and Miranda Springer, Jesse Springer, Lillian Springer, Brianna Older, and Zach; his great-grandchildren, Bentley Haynes and Kyson Smith; his sister, Kathy Thompson and husband Jim/Bear; his nephew, Brian Thompson; his niece, Jamie Thompson; and his grandnieces, Bailey and Morgan Thompson. Sister-in-law and husband, Barb and Andy Moore; brother-in-law Craig Corbett.
He is also survived by work mates Jim Forman (mineral mining), Marcus Borgmier (Master Gardener), and Bill McConnel (fishing buddy), who became like family throughout his life. Mel also leaves behind Bobby’s wife, Linda Bryant, whose friendship meant a great deal to him since childhood.
More than anything, Mel will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his loyalty to his friends, and the quiet strength and humor he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of his Life will be at their home on July 4th at 6pm. Food and fireworks will be provided.
