Robert Paul Kalinowski
In Loving memory of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, son, brother and friend. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3 (NKJV).
Robert Paul Kalinowski “Bob” was born on July 8, 1931, in Norwich Connecticut. On May 6, 2026, after 94 years in his perishable body, his soul went home to meet the Lord. May his soul rejoice in the Holy Presence of the Blessed Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with Mother Mary and all the angels & saints.
“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 11:25-26 (NKJV).
Bob was a man of deep faith who loved his family fiercely. He enjoyed making people laugh with a good (or not so good) joke or pun. Whenever he went to the doctor, the bank or even the store he always had to leave them with a joke. “Have you heard the one about?…” was a well-known phrase among all who knew him. He was a very generous man and helped many people throughout his life.
Bob moved to Richland with his parents Paul & Doris Kalinowski and his younger brother Paul Kalinowski when he was 9 years old. He attended school in Richland and dropped out in his senior year of high school to join the air force. He was stationed at Selfridge air force base in Michigan and was discharged after 4 years of service at the rank of Staff Sargeant.
While in the air force he played the clarinet and saxophone for the air force band, he even spent a short time at the Juilliard School for music. In April of 1950 Bob met his beautiful bride of 75 years, Alice Rzeppa, at a dance in Mount Clemens Michigan. After 3 months he finally called Alice for a date, and they dated every day after that. Bob and Alice married a year later, on April 28, 1951, at St. Catherines Church in Algonac Michigan. They went on to have 9 children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Bob’s career after serving in the air force included door to door vacuum sales, owning a gas station, working as a Vice President at an insurance company, and working at the Hanford WA and Vallecito CA nuclear power plants. He started his own general contracting business called Kalco Construction and served the Tri-Cities area for 17 years before retiring. Bob was also ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church, serving and retiring with a total of 45 years.
Bob was a very accomplished man. Besides his work career and raising 9 children, he was the President of the Lions Club in CA, Knights of Columbus Chaplain in Pasco, served on
the St. Vincent De Paul Board in Pasco, was on the School Board for St. Patrick’s School, served on the Catholic Charities Board and taught RCIA classes.
Bob is survived by his wife Alice Kalinowski, their children David Kalinowski & wife Cindy, Karen Higginson, husband Larry (deceased), Suzie Kinkel, husband Carl (deceased), Cathy Orthmann & husband Gerry, Mike Kalinowski & wife Pam, Linda Bailey & husband Clark, Joanie LaRivere, husband Paul (deceased), Janie Weltie, husband Chuck, Diane Kalinowski, and their 34 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Doris Kalinowski, his brother Paul Kalinowski, 3 son in-laws, multiple precious grandchildren and great grandchildren and many dear friends.
The legacy that Bob leaves behind is one of Faith, Love of God and Family. He will be greatly missed by all.
“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.”
