Timothy James Dietzen

On May 24, 2026, Tim J Dietzen passed away in his Pasco home with his wife Judy by his side.

Born June 22, 1951 in Yakima Washington to John and Elizabeth Dietzen, the third son of what grew to be seven children. The family moved to Moses Lake in 1952 where Tim enjoyed a robust childhood. Tim attended Moses Lake High School where he entertained his fellow students as a vocalist and piano player in a local rock band. After graduating in 1969 Tim attended Washington State University and Gonzaga University, later in life he got his history degree from Western Washington University. Eventually Tim returned to Moses Lake to work for his father at Dietzen’s Thriftway. In Moses Lake, Tim began dating the woman who was his match, his love, Judy Bellomy. They were married on December 16, 1972, beginning fifty-three years of friendship, trust and love. They added four daughters to their family, Sarah, Rachel, Leah Florence and Andrea. There was laughter, music, stories and an abundance of love in their home.

Tim was a dreamer, a romantic, tender hearted, a great listener and always a bit of a tease. He held many jobs to support his family. He farmed, worked as a ranch cowboy, in title insurance and eventually in security with several other jobs in between. From early in his youth, he had been taught that service was important and so he found time to volunteer. First as a firefighter, EMT, then in church, city committees and community organizations such as Civil Air Patrol and Pasco Aviation Museum. He volunteered as an aid at Pasco High School, even helping in Judy’s classes, where the students called him grandpa and asked to sit at his table. He told them stories, gave them gum, reminded them to do the work, pay attention and give their best.

It was after the move to Pasco that Tim and Judy faced their greatest challenge. Shortly after moving Tim experienced the first of many hospitalizations. In November 2008, Tim was admitted to the University of Washington Medical Center for a liver transplant. Over the next eighteen years Tim fought several health issues. The gift of the transplant and time gave him the chance to meet his grandchildren, another son in law and new friends. Time with Tim was filled with stories, treats, music and love. If you knew Tim and were welcomed into his world you were always greeted with a whole-body smile, a big hug and a little bit of teasing.

Tim is survived by his wife Judy Diane Dietzen (Bellomy), his daughter Sarah Moody, Rachel (Troy) Moritz, (Leah) Florence Dietzen and Andrea Dietzen (Jason Ford). His grandchildren Myanna, Alissa, Arabella, Sanfania, Maddox and Falina Moody, Kaylin, Ava and Emily Moritz, Lily Deleon, Evelyn and Ailyn Dietzen Ford. His siblings; Chris Dietzen (Peggy), Judy Lynn Dietzen (Joe Arruda), Dr. Mary Ann Dietzen-Spencer (Bruce), Patricia Dietzen-Delaney, and Scott Dietzen (Mishal).

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Dietzen, his in-laws, William and Florence Bellomy, his brother Dr. Sanford Dietzen, his brother-in-law, William Bellomy Jr., his brother-in-law, Michael “Mike” Delaney, and his son-in-law Thurman Dean Moody.

  • So sorry to hear about Tim’s passing. I remember him fondly as I teased him every year to come in for his annual Liver Transplant follow ups. He was one of the friendliest people I had the privilege of working with. God bless you Tim. I know you’re in Heaven and keeping everyone smiling! Say hello to my Mom! ❤️
