Adele Cromarty
Adele Mary Cromarty, 89, of Richland, Washington, died peacefully on June 21st, 2026.
Adele was born in Brisbane, Australia on February 5, 1937. She was raised by her father John Thomas Murphy and mother Eileen Doris Murphy. Adele always recalled with affection her Pomeranian Smokey and her dear mother whom she lost at the age of 18. She would often joyfully anticipate the time when they would be reunited. Adele converted to Mormonism in 1955 and her faith would become a guiding light and great comfort throughout the rest of her life.
At the age of 22, Adele traveled by ship from Australia to Canada and soon gained employment in Edmonton where she met and married Robert William Cromarty. The couple spent the early part of their marriage in Pullman, Washington where Robert completed his PhD while Adele remained busy raising their four children.
Throughout her life, Adele made friends wherever she went. She loved all animals, especially dogs and birds. She always took extra care for anyone who was struggling in life. Her compassion and empathy seemed endless.
Adele is survived by her son, Trevor; and daughters, Heather and Deborah (Ritter-Chapman); her grandchildren Cindy, Joshua, Destiny, Charlie, Katt, Perry and Kaitlin (Ritter) and six great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert William; her son, Robert Shane; and her granddaughter, April.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1321 Jadwin Avenue, Richland Washington on Tuesday, June 30th at 12 PM. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
I didn’t get the pleasure of meeting Adele until only a couple of weeks ago, though her reputation preceded her through stories told of Adele through the eyes of her daughter Heather. Adele’s light shines bright. Even through ailing, and even if I only just got to meet her, Adele’s presence was a true gift. Love to all who’re grieving her loss.
Adele was an adventurous person, to leave Australia and travel to Canada and the USA at such a young age. One of her favorite pictures was of a fireman giving a koala a drink of water. She loved animals and people!
