David Oscar Benavides Sr.
David Oscar Benavides Sr., 78, of West Richland, Washington, passed away on June 28, 2026.
David was born in McAllen, Texas, on February 16, 1948, and grew up in the Lone Star State. He later moved to Washington, where he married his beloved wife, Eva, in 1967. Together, they made their home in West Richland, building a life centered entirely around their family. David proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard for 17 years.
David was a man of dedication and immense practical skill. He was known as someone who could fix absolutely anything, always willing to lend his hands, his tools, and his time to solve a problem for those he cared about. He also had a sharp mind and thoroughly enjoyed spending his time working on puzzles. He was passionate about baseball and loved nothing more than cheering on his favorite Seattle sports teams. Some of his happiest moments were spent in the stands, as he loved nothing more than watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports. Above all else, David loved his family fiercely, and his greatest happiness came from watching his family grow across generations.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Benavides; his children, Amy Nall (Richard), Annette Benavides, David Benavides Jr. (Melissa), and Jaime Magnuson (Sean); his siblings, Debye Thoms-Gasser (Larry), Diana Lambert (Jerry), and Benny Benavides Jr. (Suzy); as well as his 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Serafin Benavides, and mother, Otila Benavides; and his sisters, Betty Young and Delia Fazzari.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026. Services will begin with a Celebration of Life mass at 12:00 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow at 3:00 PM at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home.
