Harold Kjarmo
August 8, 1943 – June 19, 2026
Harold Kjarmo, 82, of Richland, WA, peacefully passed away on June 19, at home alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Harold was born on August 8, 1943, in Hardin, MT, to Carl and Mae Preston Kjarmo. He grew up on a farm outside of Greycliff, Montana. He attended Sweet Grass County High School and the Montana School of Mines for one year before returning to Big Timber, where he worked at a grocery store until he married the love of his life, Darlene Brannin, in 1964.
Harold and Darlene moved to Richland, WA, where he began working at the Hanford Atomic Energy Site for 15 years. He then worked at Battelle for nearly 40 years, serving in his final position as Operations Manager before retiring at the age of 62. He then devoted his time to his family and another love, golf.
Harold was close with everyone he knew, but the crew who built the cabin together was especially close to his heart. Many years of memories were made on trips to the cabin, water skiing on the Columbia, dancing at the Grange halls, and playing the accordion at community events. He loved music and listened to the country western station on the radio nearly every night. For over 30 years, Harold dedicated time to work for Schuttes at Northern Lights Christmas Tree Farm, a time he loved and looked forward to every year.
He enjoyed spending time with friends, golfing, traveling, dancing and singing, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Harold will remember him as a great friend, for his golf skills, for being the life of the party, and for always showing up.
Harold lived a great life full of love, happiness, and people to hold close. There are so many memories to look back on, and we have all been so blessed to know such a great man. Family was always the most important thing to him, but his friends were highly valued too.
Harold is survived by his wife, Darlene; his sons, Kevin (Leslie) and Steve (Tamara); his daughter, Brenda (Mark); his grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, McKenzie, Madison, and Miley; his step-grandchildren, Kayla and Shaylee; his step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley; his uncle, Gene Preston; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mae; his brother, Jim; and his sister, Olga.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, located at 2500 Chester Rd, Richland, WA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Association.
Harold Kjarmo– Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend.
Harold will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the family he cherished and championed.
Harold (HH) always was present with a great attitude, his opinion (for officials), and pleasant demeanor. Amongst a set of parents who gave us all special childhoods – an entire generation is indebted to those who came to the Tri and Richland. Family, friends, and fun – that’s HH.
We’re very sorry for the loss – HH will be missed by many, but the memories will last forever.
I am so sorry Darlene. ALS is the worst ever. Prayers for comfort .
