Alice Standring

Alice JoAnn Standring (Laird), 89, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026.

Alice was born on January 3, 1937, in San Francisco, California, to Ezekiel Burt Laird and Ameretta Laird (Easbey). As a young child, she lived in Walla Walla, Washington, before moving with her family to Pasco, Washington, in 1943. She graduated from Kennewick High School in 1955.

Alice met the love of her life, Alfred Standring, and they were married on April 2, 1960. Together they built a loving family and shared many happy years together. Alice attended Washington State University Nursing School through Columbia Basin College in Pasco alongside her mother, beginning a career dedicated to caring for others.

She retired from Prosser Memorial Hospital, where she worked in the Life Care Unit. Throughout her nursing career, Alice was known for her compassion, kindness, and dedication to her patients.

Alice found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, attending Tri-City Americans hockey games with her husband, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Tammara Elliott, Rebecca Rentschler, Michael Standring, and Lisa Turner (David), all of Richland, Washington; her stepdaughter, Aline DaMattia (Mike) of West Richland; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred Standring; her parents, Ezekiel Bert Laird and Ameretta Ransier; her stepfather and stepmother; her sisters, Hazel and Lucille; her brother, Frank; her nephews, Tony and David; and her niece, Kathy.

Alice will be remembered for her caring heart, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her love and legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished so deeply.
