Born in Sacramento, CA

Gloria Bottenus

Gloria Jean Bottenus (Hutchinson), a beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend, passed away on July 2, 2026. She was 72 years old. Gloria was born June 9, 1954, in Sacramento, California, to Theresa and Dale Hutchinson, the oldest of six children and the only girl among five brothers: Bob, Jerry, Don, Mark, and Tom. Gloria proudly served her country in the U.S. Air Force for six years, where she trained to read weather patterns for pilots. It was there that she met and fell in love with Jay Bottenus, a pilot -despite once declaring she would never date one. Gloria and Jay were married on May 6, 1978, and went on to raise two children, Danny and Brienne. In 1992, the family settled in Richland, Washington, where Gloria quickly became a pillar of the community. She was a constant, generous presence at church and school events, Babe Ruth baseball games, and Girl Scout troops. She stayed at home to raise her kids for many years but eventually returned to the workforce as an office manager, first at LeMaster & Daniels Accounting Firm and later at NW CPA Group. She always had a strong work ethic in whatever she did, and this is a characteristic passed on to both her kids. Gloria was an avid board gamer, card player, and mahjong enthusiast, always ready for a game with family or friends. But her greatest joy came from becoming Grams/Grammy to six grandchildren: Brayden, Keaton, Nolan, and Mackenzie (Bottenus) and Charlotte, Lucas (Seiner). She delighted in spoiling them, volunteering at their schools, serving as a Cub Scout leader, supporting Girl Scouts, and cheering them on at every sports game, theater production, and music recital. Gloria loved her family fiercely, treasured a good glass of wine, and cherished her trips to Las Vegas with Jay. She found happiness simply spending time with those she loved. Her beautiful handmade crocheted blankets will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to receive one. Gloria will be forever loved and deeply missed by those she leaves behind. Her laugh was one of a kind and her smile, which she shared often, brought joy to whoever witnessed it. We were all so lucky to have existed in her world.  Gloria is survived by her husband, Jay Bottenus; her son, Danny (Courtney) Bottenus, and their children, Brayden, Keaton, Nolan, and Mackenzie; her daughter, Brienne (Derrick) Seiner, and their children, Charlotte and Lucas; and her brothers, Jerry, Don, Mark, and Tom. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bob. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on August 22, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kennewick, Washington. In lieu of flowers donations to Meals-On-Wheels, Scouting of America, or a non-profit that means something to you would be appreciated.

  • I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Gloria had passed. I have many fond memories with Gloria and her family. Many nights laughing and telling stories at dinner parties or over competitive pinochle games. Gloria was also my first foray into Girl Scouts, as she asked me to help with an art activity with Brienne’s Troop at Badger Mountain. I have loved watching Bri’s son in theatre performances and always enjoyed reconnecting with Gloria at those. She will be deeply missed. Wishing much love to her family,
    Jane
