Robert Bland McCord
Robert (Bob) McCord completed his lifelong journey on this earth on the morning of July 14th, 2026. He was born on August 4th, 1937, in Kingsville, Texas, the second of four children to R.B. “Tex” McCord and Peggy Ruth (Mills) McCord. His siblings included Velma Jarrett, Jim McCord and Sidney McCord.
During his early childhood his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1941 and later in 1950 relocated to Richland Washington and was a resident for over 62 years. His father R.B. McCord was killed in an industrial accident on the Hanford Project in the summer of 1955 when Bob was a senior in high school.
Bob attended Carmichael Jr. High (50-51), Chief Joseph Jr. High (51-52) and graduated from Columbia High School (RHS) in 1955…. Go Bombers!
He attended Washington State University in 1955. He became a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, Alpha Omicron Chapter. Bob also played varsity baseball for the WSU Cougars under coach Buck Bailey and worked intermittently attending college and accumulating 4 years of service with General Electric Co. During that time, he married Carolyn Irene Andrew’s, a sassy redheaded lass (RHS class 1957.)They had 3 children, Rebecca, Dennis and MaryAnn. After 43 years of beloved marriage, Carol passed away in 2001.
Following graduation from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Metallurgy, he subsequently supported the United States Government and Armed Forces in the Nuclear Defense Industry and in the Navy Nuclear Fuels Program retiring from Westinghouse Hanford in 1994 after 30 years of service.
Bob’s hobbies and community service included managing and coaching numerous youth baseball and football teams, as well as, umpiring all levels of youth baseball. He served as member of the Citizens Advisory Council to
Richland School Board was President of the Hanford High School Booster Club, Chairman of Local Chapter of American Society for Metals.
Bob was an avid angler, boater sportsman and golfer. He also loved to travel and play blackjack at the many casinos throughout the country!
Bob’s service with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks began after joining the Westbrook, Connecticut lodge No. 1784 in 1970. He then transferred to Richland, Washington Lodge No. 2339 in 1972 and was a Charter Member and Life Member of Tri-Cities Lodge No. 2755.
He served the Tri-cities Lodge with distinction by chairing numerous committees in appointed and elected offices, progressing through the chairs and serving as Exalted Ruler in 1994-1995 and 1995-1996. He was elected as Vice President, Washington East Region in 2000-2001 and served as President of the Washington State Elks Association during 2004-2005.
One of his biggest honors was serving as Administrative Assistant to the Grand Exalted Ruler for the entire United States under the Hon. Roger R. True during 2002-2003. Lastly, he was elected to the Office of Grand Esteemed Leading Knight in 2007-2008 and served as Grand Lodge Advisor for the East District of Washington State, from 2005-2015. Special awards received include Washington State Elks Association during “Officer of Year” 1993-1994 and Washington State Elks Elk’s Association “Exalted Ruler of Year” 1994-1995.
Bob found love again in 2010 and married Carolyn Hebert. Carolyn and Bob traveled extensively together throughout the United States and Canada. They were married for 14 years until her passing in 2024.
Bob had a quick wit, a tremendous sense of humor, a youthful spirit and a passionate love of life.
He is survived by his brother Sidney McCord of Kennewick, Washington; daughter Rebecca McCord of Norwich, Connecticut; son Dennis (Lori)McCord of Richland, Washington; daughter Maryann (Joe) Payne West Richland, Washington. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan McCord;
Calli Lalime; Dylan, Payton and Landon Radliff and great grandchildren Liam and June Lalime; Charlotte and Winnie McCord.
A celebration of Life Service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday October 2nd, 2026, at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Event Center with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Washington State Elks Therapy Program for Children at PO Box 110760, Tacoma, Washington 98411, or a charity of your choice.
