Kenneth L. Schryvers (“Ken”), 80, of West Richland, Washington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 11, 2026.

Ken was born on May 9, 1946, in Pasco, Washington, to Sam and Blanche Schryvers. He was raised in the Yakima Valley and graduated from Grandview High School before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from Washington State University.

In March 1967, Ken was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was deployed to Dau Tieng, Vietnam, with the 25th Infantry Division in September 1967. In February 1968, he sustained life-changing injuries in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and bravery. He received an honorable discharge from the Army on November 21, 1968.

Following his military service, Ken built a successful career in banking. He worked as a loan officer with Old National Bank, later U.S. Bank, for 17 years. He began his career in Sunnyside before transferring to Prosser, where he spent ten years serving local families and businesses, and later continued his work in Richland. He then embarked on a second career as a life insurance agent with New York Life, where he worked for more than seven years before retiring.

Ken was deeply committed to serving his community. Throughout the years, he was an active member of the Jaycees, Richland Kiwanis, United Good Neighbors, and a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He also volunteered with United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties and the American Diabetes Association. Through his dedication to these organizations, Ken developed many lifelong friendships and positively impacted countless lives.

In 1975, Ken and Marilyn welcomed their daughter, Angela, in Prosser, Washington. Although their marriage ended after eight years, Ken remained a devoted father and loving grandfather.

Ken embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved fishing, golfing, gardening, traveling, and sharing great meals with family and friends. He was an avid supporter of Prosser High School and Washington State University athletics and faithfully cheered for the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners. Nothing, however, brought him greater pride than his three grandchildren, Ayla, Clay, and Kenna. He treasured every opportunity to attend their sporting events and celebrate their accomplishments.

Known for his quick wit, warm smile, and remarkable sense of humor, Ken never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and loved bringing laughter to those around him. For the past sixteen years, he shared a wonderful life with Gwyn Harvey, the love of his life. Together, they enjoyed many adventures, often alongside his beloved sister, Corinne, and brother-in-law, John.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant sister, Sharon.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Lance) Camp; his sister, Corinne (John) Richards; his significant other, Gwyn Harvey; his grandchildren, Ayla Camp, Clay Camp, and Kenna Camp; and his niece and nephews, Craig Dion, Amy (Chris) Durano, and Branden (Tanya) Dion.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 4, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home in Richland. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at a separate location.

Ken’s courage, kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be remembered always. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the friendships he cherished, and the family who loved him dearly.
