In Loving Memory of John Burke Macki

September 21, 1948 – October 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dad, John Burke Macki, who passed away on October 8, 2026, after a short illness.

John was born on September 21, 1948, to John and Cecelia Macki in Idaho. From a young age, he was raised by Einar and LaFonda Macki, whom he knew as Mom and Dad, alongside his brother Jim and sister Pam. John attended Richland schools and went on to become a dedicated, long-time employee of Goodwill.

Above all else, John was extremely proud of his children, Carmell and Jamie. He was their ultimate supporter, volunteering for all of Jamie’s sports teams and bursting with pride when he was officially named equipment manager for one of the teams. John had a massive, caring heart, loved to laugh, and possessed a childlike enthusiasm for life. He truly loved making people happy and was always willing to lend a hand or tell you exactly what you wanted to hear, even if it wasn’t the whole truth.

If you knew John, you knew he did things entirely his own way. He firmly believed that the best sandwiches were made with crackers and cheeseballs, and he maintained that the only medical professional he ever truly needed was Dr. Pepper. He also had a legendary relationship with technology, routinely creating a brand-new Facebook account every single time he forgot his login. His family is pretty sure he still has at least eight different active profiles floating around out there right now.

John also had an immense love for animals. There wasn’t a dog he didn’t adore, and they loved him right back. His favorite furry companions, Loona and Jelly, are already deeply missing his endless treats, constant attention, and the shared warmth of his heated blanket.

As the ultimate sports fan, John never missed a matchup for the Seahawks, the Kraken, or the Mariners. His family will deeply miss his signature phone calls right before kickoff or puck drop, always calling to ensure everyone had the game turned on.

John leaves behind his daughter, Carmell (Michael) Gamble, and his son, Jamie (Molly) Macki; his cherished grandchildren, Julia Gamble-Weiler, Brooklyn Gamble, Michael Gamble Jr, Haily (Sergey) Gorbatyuk, Aaron Macki, Clay Hunt, Allysa Macki, Cole Hunt, and Isabella Macki; his numerous beloved great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pam Macki. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.

John’s warmth, humor, and independent spirit will be desperately missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
