David Vance

David Dawayne Vance, MD of Kennewick, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 9, 2026. He was 52 years old.

David was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Puyallup, Washington. A graduate of Pierce College and Louisiana College, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Louisiana State University and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and St. Jude Hospital in Memphis. He subsequently moved to the Tri-Cities area, where he earned a reputation as a dedicated, caring urologist who worked tirelessly to better his patients’ quality of life. He was particularly proud to offer his patients a private practice environment where he could partner with individuals to provide care aligned with their unique values and goals.

Outside of work, David was a man of many talents and who cultivated countless hobbies, from training hunting dogs to nurturing fig trees. He travelled widely with his partner Kathleen and particularly enjoyed visits to Banff, Montana, and Coeur D’Alene. A committed outdoorsman, he took many fishing and hunting trips around the United States with his brother and their friends.

David was the son of William Edward (Ted) Vance of Yelm, WA and the late Reba (Hilsman) Vance. He was the loving partner of Kathleen Kieran, MD, the devoted brother of Larry Vance and his wife Amanda of Florida, and a caring uncle of Reba, Tristan, and Seth Vance and Devin Wheeler. He also leaves behind many close friends and colleagues, including Mary and James Lowe and Dr. Joseph Oro, and his beloved dogs Kaia, Jesse, Blue, Sky, Skeeter, Beau, Luke, Ace, and Sassy.

At the request of his family, all services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Dr. Vance will be remembered for his generosity, directness, and commitment to excellence in everything he did. He will be terribly missed.

  • I owe my life to Dr. Vance. Not only from his medical intervention but his emotional support. After spending four months in a hospital bed unable to walk. Today I am rehabilitating on the road to recovery. When I thought I wouldn’t even live. Thank You Doc for a second chance. You will forever be remembered in my heart.

  • No one will ever do prostrate biopsies as expertly and painlessly as Dr Vance. When it was time for prostate cancer treatment, he scheduled me for the last appointment of the day to bring my kids and have a frank & unhurried talk about my treatment options. His advice was frank & unfiltered and led to radiation treatment that remains successful under his care. I treasure his memory.

  • I worked with Dr Vance for 10+ years. His directness was what first stood out, but the longer I got to know him the more I witnessed how caring and thoughtful he was.

He treated his employees well and it was truly a family feel in the office. I will never forget seeing him connect with his employees kids. The kids loved him.

Dr Vance will be missed. RIP

  • 2012 was when my husband Mike went to the cancer center for their free prostate checks. He got a call a few days later and was scheduled with Dr. Vance. What a gift he was. He saw my husband through his first cancer treatment that was successful for 12 years and then in September 2024, sat with us again as he let us know it was now stage IV metastatic. He genuinely shed tears telling us and we told him we were a team of 3. He never sugar coated anything and to us, he was more than a doctor, he was a compassionate friend.
We were blessed to have known him these past 14 years and he will be greatly missed. You were dearly loved by us Dr. Vance. 🙏🏻🕊️

  • I first encountered with Dr. Vance was in Tacoma at Multicare, during my treatment for clear cell carcinoma of my right kidney. during my 20 continuing struggle with rennal cancer, he has been the best, the most concerned and mostly dedicated to my care. I am shocked and saddened that he won’t be to help me with my continued battle with the horrible illness. he was kind, concerned, always looking for answers and treatment options. I owe Dr Vance an Doctor James Clark of Tricity radiology for the fact I am still alive 22 years since I was first diagnosed. godspeed Dr. Doug, your are loved, respected and will truly missed here in Richland. my sinceresttsypathy to his family and his beloved dogs.

  • Ohhhh Dr. Vance ! I will never forget you sitting in the OR waiting for anesthesia to attempt to start my IV. You sat, holding my hand, right at my ear and when anesthesia could not start it, you said “cancel it”. The OR was already opened and prepped and you said “nope, not gonna do it.” As an RN of 38 years, I was shocked and amazed. And forever grateful. Came back a week later and “got her done”. From the way you took care of me to be sure I had no pain on my Hawaiian vacation to the follow up appointments in your office-I have sung your praises since day 1. And will sing them until my last. You will be soooo missed my friend. By your loyal nurses and patients.

  • I’m very thankful to David, he was a friend to his patients. He was never too rushed to ask and answer. He always asked about my wife, kids. He either had an incredible memory, or kept great notes. Either way, he had a caring nature. When I’d respond about my family, he’d make recommendations for all of us. I was just a patient, but this unique man didn’t just help me, he helped my family. He is missed.

  • There are no words to fully express how grateful we are to
to have had you in our lives. You were so much more than a doctor to us. You went above and beyond in caring for my husband, and we will never forget the dedication, compassion, and genuine concern you showed our family. You took the time to understand his unique medical condition and gave us something so valuable over the years: the comfort of knowing we had someone in our corner who truly cared and would go the extra mile for him. Through countless monthly visits, you became such a special and important part of our lives. The relationship we built over the years was something we will always treasure, and your unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in our lives. Thank you for the years of care, compassion, and commitment you gave so generously. We will forever be grateful that you were part of our journey, and you will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Doctors like you are rare, and the lives you touched are forever changed. You will be deeply missed.

  • Dr Dave was an awesome doctor & fellow lover of hunting dogs & guns… I spent a few years looking for a very special shotgun for him, to be used by him, for the use in training his dogs… Was never a problem having an appointment, as we did the doctoring & then it turned to guns & his dogs…. Always the same question, “Have you shot the gun yet?” ….His answer was always the same, “no not yet”, but really soon…. Rest well my friend & we will see each other someday, on the other side…
