Jay Warren McCue

Jay Warren McCue, 88, of Richland, WA passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on October 18, 2026. Jay was born on March 11, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia and grew up with his brother Bill and sisters Ann and Mary. Jay lived his life by example with his focus being on his Christian faith, love of family, value of hard work, and service to others.

Growing up, Jay spent summers at Priest Lake working as a handyman at Elkins resort. This gave him a love for the outdoors which he carried throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, water skiing, snow skiing, golfing, and camping with family and friends.

Jay graduated from Columbia High school in 1956. He then attended University of Puget Sound, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Upon graduation Jay joined the National Guard and earned the rank of Lieutenant. In 1961 Jay married his high school sweetheart and best friend Donavie Perkins.

Jay began his career as a buyer for Allied Stores. He then was hired by Westinghouse in the Human Resource department. He went on to build a successful career with Exxon Nuclear Fuel and successor companies as an HR executive in the Nuclear Energy industry. Throughout his career he took great pride in helping people find employment and navigate new opportunities. His career took he and his family to Montana, New York, and Idaho.

After retirement, Jay continued finding meaningful ways to stay involved. He spent numerous years working with Fish and Wildlife in the Hanford Reach and also provided human resources consulting along the east coast.

Jay’s desire to serve others extended well beyond his professional life. He worked with Habitat for Humanity, Tri-cities Union Gospel Mission, and with MAPS restoring Christian youth camps. Jay was a member of Bethel Church and led a small group as well as Bible studies. He never met a stranger and enjoyed fellowship with others who shared in his faith.

Jay also had a passion for travel and was able to travel both at home and abroad. He enjoyed motor homing with his family and friends. He and Donavie’s most memorable trip was to Isreal and Jordan.

Jay treasured his family, and found great joy spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jay will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donavie, children Kent and Wendy McCue, Jan and Lonnie Flowers, grandchildren Kyle and Peri McCue, Kailey and Jordan Friesz, Kiley and Lance Rash, Alyssa and Chris Martin, Michael Flowers, Madi Flowers and Aaron Jackson, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Mary Hansen, Vera Dee and Willian Price McCue.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hanford Home Health and Tri-City Chaplaincy.
